I saw it last night, and as a big fan of the whole franchise, I was pretty happy with this. There were some obvious problems with it--it just kinda wandered, and the ending was pretty unfulfilling--I really hope they make a sequel just so that they can put in either the prehistoric earth ending or the man who rules the universe ending. It completely captured the idea that there is no real evil in the universe, just beurocracy, stupidity and arrogance. Yet it had little sense of overall goodness in the universe that Adams always seemed to have in his writing.
Great casting--not exactly as I had imagined the characters, but they all come through really well--especially Trillian and Arthur. Neat little cameos too, like Jason Scwartzman playing Gag Halfrunt. The tacked-on love story was okay, except that there was a big emphasis on how Arthur lacked courage and had to overcome that to win the girl, which was far too contrived a device.
