Default Roy Green? Question from an American

Hi - so, I'm an American, and my wife just got booked to appear on the Roy Green show this Saturday. But, we know nothing about him, his show, his politics, etc.

While I realize how stupid it sounds that she would be booked on the show, the topic on which she'll be speaking is one that would be hard to exploit.

In any event, is anyone here familiar with this guy? Can anyone tell me anything about him? Is he legit? I don't care how popular he is, necessarily. My wife does not stand to gain from her appearance.

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks!

Strange that your wife would book on a show not knowing anything about it.

In any case I don't know anything about him but google is friendly these days.

I listen to Roy every once in a while if I'm driving around on the weekend.
He's a pretty right wing dude (by Canadian standards), but a pretty fair host.

He occasionally will get into it with a guest if they're really on opposite sides of an issue, but I wouldn't call him confrontational.

Your wife should be just fine.

I've heard this show before. In the link I got as far as the bit about someone from Canadian Federation of Independent Business being one of their favorite guests and that was enough for me.

sorry...no she agreed to do the show fully understanding (and in fact because of) the topic.

It's Roy Green and his show in general that we don't know anything about.

I checked out his website and, of course you always put your own best foot forward on your own website, and the awards and stuff look cool.

Just wondering if anyone who listens to him has an opinion about him.

What's the topic, and what's your wife's position?

My wife is into this "free range kids" movement. The idea that people, at least Americans (massive, massive generalizations), over-parent and over-protect their kids and, worse, condemn parents who don't over-protect theirs. The idea is basically that, yes, there are dangers out there, and one child abduction is awful and terrible and a tragedy.

But, statistically, child abductions and the like are incredibly rare relative to the number of children out there.

So the over-protecting amounts to nothing, and smothers our kids.

There's a lady who started this whole thing, and has taken some heat for it, and my wife went to hear her speak and relayed a story about leaving our (then) 4-year old daughter alone in the kids section of the public library for a couple minutes. The lady put that story up on her blog and it got all kinds of attention. Hundreds and hundreds of reactions. Some people saying our kids obviously should be taken away from us on one end of the spectrum, others saying "good for you" on the other.

Anyway, this Roy Green apparently has had the lady (Lenore something or another) on his show, and specifically talked about my wife's story once, and that's how he came to contact my wife about being on his show - though Lenore.

Roy Green does a national show on the corus network on weekends. If you're conservative you probably like him, if you're liberal you probably don't.

edit: Based on the above I would think he think he would agree with most of your wife's position. He may an issue with leaving a 4 year old alone, but it's hard to say.

I would imagine that Roy will be on your wife's side on this issue.
She shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Even if he did disagree with her he's not the kind of guy who will start calling her a bad mother or anything like that.

well my wife is pretty liberal, so that might be interesting!

And that's what I meant about the topic being hard to exploit, against my wife's side of it, anyway.

Thanks for the scouting report!

Yeah, but keep in mind that Conservative in Canada is a lot closer to liberal in the states than it is to conservative down there.

I have to diisagree, conservative in Canada is so beyond liberal in the US as to be unelectably communist.

Harper would be shoot to death by a Tea Party activist before he could take the oath in the US.

Ahhh, so if conservatives in Canada are to the left of Liberals in the states, then who are they closer to on the political spectrum??

Grab a pencil and show your work.
Go ahead, I can wait.

Is there any party in the US that is advocating universal healthcare, an absoloute right to abortion and strict gun control, all enacted on a national scale by a strongly federal goverment regardless of the provinces wishes?
