So 5 countries have hockey players as their top paid athlete. A couple are fairly obvious, but good luck guessing them all.

Those salaries in Nepal and Niue are pretty low. About 50% of high school kids in Calgary are making about the same amount of money in one summer.
Pretty surprising to see Manny Paq make 16mill a fight.

Sports must not be high priority for the Nepalese. One would think with all those sherpas running around, they'd have a few more standouts in something.

Especially when Canada is not one of them!

Spains Fernando Alonso makes 30 million Euros, or $43.5M to drive for Ferrari
I think Germany's Sebastian Vettel is in the 15 million Euro range, but that might include bonuses. If accurate, that would place him ahead of Nowitzki
Also, Kimi Raikkonen had a $51M salary from Ferrari, and received ~$23M of that in severence so he could go Rally racing

Seems like all the top earners are in racing (auto / motorcycle); well, unless your name is Manny Pacquiao or Alex Rodriguez.
Earners with the best name is a tie between Lehlohonolo Seema (Lesotho) and Anicet Andrianantenaina (Madagascar)!

LOL @ the New York Mets who are paying 3 guys on that list a combined amount that rivals the NHL salary cap.

Wow, I can't believe a WRC driver makes more than an F1 driver and it's practically the highest paid thing on there aside from a boxer and A-Rod.

who is the highest paid female athlete?
I would guess Danica Patrick, Michelle Wie, or a tennis player (William's sisters)

There's a lot of baseball players with huge salaries as well. A few big basketball and soccer salaries too.

I'm surprised Jason Bay makes more than Justin Morneau, although it isn't by much.

I like how the top paid athlete from Ethiopia is in the sport of "road running".
It must be a great life.... that is until the coyote catches you.

Not including endorsements I think it's Danica Patrick or Kim Clijsters.
Clijsters made $5 million last year, and I can't find a number for Danica which doesn't include her endorsements. She reportedly made $12 million total.
Including endorsements it was Maria Sharapova @ $24.5 mil.

I don't think they include endorsements or else Tiger Woods and Mickelson would be way ahead of A-Rod, so Michelle Wie wouldn't be close as she is about the 3rd-5th best American Womens golfer last season making less than other Americans on the LPGA tour.

I would guess Wie would have appearance fees for just showing up at the various golf tournaments

As a Yankees fan, every time I see the $32,000,000 million price tag for A-Roid, aka A-Fraud, aka A-Hole, I throw up a little in my mouth.
