Looks like it was the ceiling that collapsed, and not the roof. Moisture/snow getting under the roofing somehow and building up to the point where it couldn't hold up any longer.

Scary, but not as scary as the roof collapsing.

Do any of the other oldtimers here remember the old Kinsmen Arena in SW(?) Calgary? Every time I played there as a kid I was afraid something like this would happen there, and it eventually did in the early '80s (during summer and no injuries, if I recall).
