Police justified in pepper-spraying violent 8 year-old boy?
Quote:
By the time police arrived, young Aidan was in a full-blown meltdown. He had ripped molding from the wall and tossed chairs and a TV cart around the classroom. He had grabbed a stick and chased his teachers into the office, where they locked themselves in. “I wanted to make something sharp,” he told NBC News. “I was so mad at them.” At one point, police allege, he warned his teachers, “If you come out, you’re gonna die!”
Police insist that they ordered the boy to drop the stick and when he refused, they squirted him twice with pepper spray.
But Aidan told a slightly different version of the story to Vieira Wednesday. He said that he had already dropped the stick when police sprayed him. “The first time they said it, I just kind of did it slowly and then once it touched the ground, that’s when it happened.”
Part of me disagress with the pepper spray part. I'm sure the cops could have ran at him and pinned him to the ground. But I'd be lying if I said a little piece of me isn't happy the little turd got a face full of pepper spray.
Also, the mom should take responsibility for his actions instead of directing blame elsewhere. She looks like a real winner.
Honestly it kinda sounds like in this case they were. If they've been out to the school before for one particular student and the teachers are afraid to open a door then I say the kid had it coming and needed to be knocked down a peg.
A shot of pepper spray at 8 years old may just avoid a much more seriose issue later in life.

He was interviewed on Good Morning America this morning.
Interviewer: "When you said you wanted to kill them, did you mean it?"
Boy - "A little..."
I laughed pretty hard at that. His Mom was trying to defend his actions, and when he said that it pretty much blew the whole thing out of the water. Check the video at about 2:50 in.

Mom: The police should have handled it better
Aiden: I kind of deserved it
Meredith: Can you accept or entertain the possibility that they didn't have any choice but to use spray on your son? (referring to the police)
Mom: To a degree, but he was in a school for children with behavioural issues
How does that not justify the police? If anything if the teachers felt they were in danger from a higher risk violent student then the police would have greater justification.

The funnier quote was when his mom said this is only a problem between Aidan and the school, and that he never acts that way in other places.
Kid is totally lying when he says he put the stick down and then got pepper sprayed. He's also full of excuses with his "I just can't control my body" crap, which has almost assuredly been fed to him by his excuse making mother.

If the cops tried to pin him down, you'd just get a complain about how this kid got beat instead of sprayed. I think the spray was the best choice.
I dunno...he's an 8 year old with a stick. I'm fairly certain a cop could have taken a shot from an 8-year old, taken away the stick, then held him upside down by one leg until Mom arrived. Pepper spray seems so lazy...
