Tintin Movie
Reading the Dark Knight rises thread reminded me that there is another movie coming out in 2011 that could be epic... The Adventures of Tintin : Secret of the Unicorn...anyone else a Tintin fan?

You have to have a heart of coal to not be a fan of Tintin!

I managed to read every single Tintin took I could find when I was younger, and then forgot about them after we moved from a library that carried most of them. This should be interesting.

With both Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson holding the reigns with this franchise it would be a huge disappointment if this movie didn't turn out to be entertaining.

The Sea Captain was the best.

Hm, I don't recall the books being very racist, but then, my favorite ones were the space related ones (wanted to be an astronaut, of course) and I was much younger, so didn't see racism everywhere. Probably been...25 years since I last picked up a Tintin book.

I read Tintin books sooo long ago I don't know if I would recognize any of it. I'll probably rent it on Bluray.

Tintin in the Congo (which never was translated into English was pretty bad)...although the next book Tintin in America was pretty critical of the way American Indians were treated (although they were portrayed in the stereotypical manner of the day).
No doubt his early works were filled with stereotypes common in the culture of the time, but I think he generally got his act together. And he seems to be more supportive than degrading to minorities (at least in the modern versions)
Herge also had to work in Nazi-occupied Europe (The Shooting Star was written under the Nazi's)...leading to some to charge Herge with collusion. If you see the original version of the Shooting Star it has the team competing for the meteor is an American group financed by a very stereotypical Jewish group of Capitalists. That flavour was scrubbed in a remake.

I've managed since my son was born to buy every title in the Tintin series - I hope he likes them HALF as much as I did growing up.

I stumbled across a Tintin memorabilia store in Paris. It was glorious.
I used to read a lot of Tintin and Asteryx & Obelix books.

Tintin is a God to some people, when I was in Belgium they idolize Tintin, people have tattoos of snowy and the sea captain. There are dedicated museums to Tintin.
Its actually a little creppy.
And yes, some of the older editions are pretty racist, but thats just how it was back in the day.

I think Peter Jackson did this one?
I was hoping it would be a real time movie not animated or whatever it is.. too bad.
