Help me find Korean Beer or Soju in Calgary

i was there recently, lots of soju for consumption and korean beer. Apparently you're supposed to pour the giant bottles into small cups rather than drink from them directly.

I believe that new Korean restaurant Anju, located on the west end of downtown, carries that beer. Fantastic restaurant as well, by the way.

Liquor store up in the T&T mall (Franklin) has 참이슬 Fresh and original and also 처음처럼 (approx $9 per bottle). Heard some of the co-ops have it as well but is more expensive. No idea if they carry Korean beer.

Cass and Hite are pretty crappy.

Soju is SICK, it tastes like rubbing alcohol... i dunno why you would want to drink it here.

I gotta disagree man. I spent a few months in Korea last summer, and I really started to like Hite, especially when mixed with Soju. Cass, I'm not a big fan of though.

Try zyn.ca. If they don't have the liquor you want in store, they can usually order it. I know that sounds like it's just a website, and while it is a website, there is a store in the east end of Inglewood, by the old Molson/Calgary brewery.

When i was there i drank a good amount of Cass and Hite, especially when i was in Busan. I think they are both pretty similar to Canadian, i cant remember which but one was REALLY light tasting and very bubbly.

I remember my first shot of soju... it was painful haha, but there is a reason why its so cheap there, i remember the little bottles were like a dollar.

If anyone knows where i can get some Dong Dong Ju... that would be AWESOME, i loved that stuff, one bar we went to on my first day in Wonju we sat and drank that stuff for hours... it was delicious.

I know that Seoul Korean BBQ on Macleod sells it, but only if you are eating there or having drinks.

Head over to Sura on 4th St NW (my favourite korean spot in the city) and ask them where they buy theirs. They serve it there, but they definitely get it from somewhere in Calgary.

Wonju is my birth town. Glad you had a good time over there enjoying dong dong ju. I will be heading back to Korea this summer......too bad I don't drink. I would be having a bottle of soju every other day.

Haha thats funny, have you ever hiked to the top of Mt. Chiaksan? Its actually a great hike with an amazing view of Wonju from the top.

Lived in Wonju for first 9 years of my life before living in Seoul and coming to Canada. Too young to enjoy hiking or beauty of nature back then. Probably will go visit Mt. Seo-rak-san this summer and enjoy a few ocean beaches out eastward.

Seoraksan is amazing too, its touristy (for Korea..so not much). If you can, try and hike it... its VERY difficult, or you could just take the cable car up. I know at the top there is a little shop that sells the best pancake and brown sugar things... i dunno what they are but they are delicious.

Sokcho is pretty cool too, i liked staying at theJjimjilbang there, i dunno what it was called but it was one of the biggest in the area. The fish markets there are pretty neat too, you can get some good deals on seafood if you are into that sort of stuff.
