Default Razer blades

So I get this new razer as a stocking stuffer this past xmas, it is a Gillette fusion proglide power(5 blades),I'm not useally one for gimmics but I just realised I haven't changed the damn blade yet!. I don't shave every day(3-4 times a week) but this thing is still sharp and smooth after about 60 shaves. I know the blades are expensive but this is amazing.

anyone else try em?

Man, five blades would cut my face all to pieces. I can't go above three. They seem to keep adding another blade each year . . .

Can't stand the new triple and quadruple RAZORS. They are too wide to be accurate if you have a beard or goatee. And if you have a heavy beard, they clog up too easy. Especially those Schick ones with the wire guard. I find I feel like I am dragging a 2 x 4 scrap across my face with those 4 blade RAZORS.

The best razor ever invented, is the standard fare Gillette sensor. Think they came out in the early 90's. Accurate, and close all at the same time. And wide enough gap between the blades that if you have a real beard, and like to grow it out for a week or so, you don't need to spend half your time rinsing the thing out.

Got a bulk buy on blades like 6 years ago. 200 cartridges for 50 bucks. I use one cartridge a month, so do the math.... lol.

I use Schick's Quatro Titanium and it does a good job, but I find that they clog up after 8-10 shaves. The 3 blade version is ok, but the Quatro is definately better IMO.

I've always been partial to the Sensor Excel.

I'm not partial to these tri-quadri-quintuple bladed floppy-headed gimmicks that cost about $5 each to replace.

I think functionality ends at two blades, and marketing begins at three.

I loved my fusion, but recently stopped going clean shave anyway.
Invested into a $40 Philips beard trimmer that leaves an intentional stubble. Much better, perfect stubble all the time.

Thats what I use to think, I used the excels for years but I still had to change the blades twice a month, I don't care if this new one uses a $6.00 blade if they last 3-4 months!

I know this is a little off topic, but I thought I should put forth the concept of wet shaving. It's made a comeback a little bit in recent years I think, but a lot of people still don't know about it. It's the way your grandfather shaved. It worked for him, it only has one blade. You don't need 5 blades and a $10 cartridge to shave.

Multiple blades and the razors of today are all gimmicks. They sell the razor itself cheap and then jab you with exorbitant cartridge costs.

Be a real man and get a safety razor. Your grandfather or father may even have one laying around. They last forever because they're made of stainless steel, not plastic.

The razor blades costs pennies, not dollars.

Wet shaving takes longer, and in today's rush rush world, i'm guessing 90% of people don't want to take the time to use this razor, and I suppose that is fine for you. I use a Shick razor when i'm in a rush as well. But there is no better shave you can do yourself than with a safety razor like a Merkur.

Video is a little corny, but the guy is a valuable resource for those who want to try wet shaving:

I've been wet shaving this way for maybe 3 years now. It's much more enjoyable than shaving with current products, and it is unbelievable how close of a shave you can get. No way that a 5 balde beast can touch a safety razor in the closeness department when you do it right and take your time.

I'm with worth. Try wet-shaving. Expensive on the front end, but totally efficient in the long-run, and it's just a lot of fun. I use the Japanese Feather platinum blades, and I change about once every 6 weeks. They cost about .50 apiece.

Also, making and applying your own shaving cream (I use Taylor of Old Bond Street) is just about the most satisfying thing a man can do nowadays, minus the obvious.

As much as some believe using three, four, etc., blades is a gimmick, I believe those that go out of their way to use the ol' wet shave do it, more than for any sort of better shave (I think it's marginally better, if that), to stroke their own male egos more than anything. I know a couple guys that do it and they never fail to bring it up whenever shaving is spoken about, and I always hear that damn "real men" comment. Ugh.

So?

Utilitarianism is just boring. Why not have a bit of fun while you are shaving?

I also got rid of some pretty nasty razor burn that I had when I was shaving with a 4-blade monstrosity. I hated shaving before, I even went so far as to buy an electric razor, which is like using a weed-whacker. I find wet-shaving to be a pleasurable, more authentic experience, plus as mentioned it is much cheaper and environmentally friendly than buying all those aerosol cans, and massive plastic razor composites.

It's annoying?

Personally, I find shaving a personal matter, and it differs face-to-face. I can't use anything over three blades because it cuts and irritates, and don't find anything below that very good. I never use shaving cream -- I use soap and water. Hate the smell of the canned stuff. Maybe some people find wet shaving good for them, but just because your damned dead grandpa used to do it in the 1940s doesn't mean only "real men" do it today! Have fun all you want, but nothing you said addresses the stroking of your own ego part that I mentioned, which was more addressed at worth's talk about "real men use safety razors."

You have to admit it though, you did feel pretty manly saying that you used soap and water. Goddamit, that's what our grandpappies used.

I only use soap and water because the shaving cream stings my tender skin while shaving, so not too manly. That and I hate smelling like a Persian car salesman after (sorry if there are any Persians out there). I don't shave too closely, either, since I find that irritates my face like crazy, too. It took me years to find the perfect combination of closeness, razor, and soap/cream!

Gentlemen, nobody gives a damn what razor you use. I propose, however, shaving in the shower and revolutionizing your life!

How do you see where you're shaving, though? I could easily see myself cutting off my lips and slitting my own throat doing that.
