Default iPhone sound problem.

Just recently my phone has no sound. I can hear it ring, but I am not able to hear anyone on the other line if they call or hear music or videos. When I turn up the volume it says (headphones) under the volume bar. So just wondering if anyone knows if this is an easy fix or should I take it in to get fixed?

Thanks

Try cleaning out your headphone jack. Either canned air or try plugging your headphones in and out several times. It happened to me once or twice on my old 3G.

Yeah, I think the phone still thinks that they're plugged in.

When you're turning up the volume and it says "headphones" under the volume bar, it's because it thinks you have headphones plugged in. This will disengage the speaker, which is why you can't get any sound without headphones.

Follow Yeah_Baby's advice and try to get it cleaned, and hope that the headphone jack isn't damaged. Something is shorted out in there. That can happen from crud in the jack, or if something is damaged.

The only thing I can think of is my daughter gets a hold of my phone sometimes and sucks on it, so maybe her spit gets in there somewhere. It was working fine this morning and now it has that problem.

Sometimes junk, like lint from your pocket, can get in there.

Do a soft reset. Hold the power button and home button down for 10 seconds without letting go.

So I tried all those things you guys said and none of them seemed to work at the time. Then a couple hours after I tried those things it just started to work.

Thanks for all your help though.

The draw back of that of course, is having to go into an Apple store.

Call Phone Freak. The guys name is Curtis he will come to you and do the repair or pickup the phone to repair. He is really knowledgeable and is a reasonable price. His number is 99-CRACK. 992-7225. I was having various minor issues with my 3 year old 3GS and had him give it a tune up and it runs like a top now.
