WEEK 13: STAMPEDERS vs Tigercats
WEEK 13: TOUCHDOWN ATLANTIC: STAMPEDERS vs TigerCats
Game will be played in Moncton, New Brunswick at 2pm Atlantic Time or 11am Mountain Time
This is the second consecutive season that a CFL regular game will be played in the Maritimes. Edmonton Eskimos defeated Toronto Argonauts 24-6 last season. Hamilton Tigercats will be the home team on this game.
OFFENSE:
The Dr. Jekyl & Hyde coaching of Dave Dickerson. Against Edmonton Eskimos, they dominated the running game and they were mixing up plays. Against BC Lions, the running game was pretty much non-existence. The whole offense was terrible including the OLine who dominated the line a game back. QB Henry Burris only passed for 184 yards and 1 TD and was running away from pressures all game until he was replaced by Drew Tate. Most of the time he was scrambling and running for his life. BC Lions secondary did a heck of a good job not giving him any open receivers. The OLine in the meantime wasn't any help at all.
Romby Bryant had a decent game getting 4 receptions for 53 yards. Nik Lewis was good in the first half but was the forgotten man in the 2nd half. There wasn't any balls thrown in his direction in the 2nd half. Makes you wonder what the heck is Dickerson thinking. This is the same guy who are so consistent getting the 1st down on a 2nd down try all season and suddenly he is the forgotten man.
It looks like Coach Hufnagel wanted to send a message on both sides. On offense, there is a possibility that RB Joffrey Reynolds will not start as the Stamps backfield. He might not even dress for the game, which I think is not good. Joffrey might not run the ball as good as he used but he is still a good blocker. I don't mind seeing Jon Cornish start as an RB but not dressing Reynolds might not be a good idea. Mind you, the Tigercats gave up a lot of rushing yardages in the last two games. Early in the week Hufnagel was saying don't look too much on Cornish and Coker doing some reps instead of Reynolds. He mentioned Coker is getting some reps because they need to play him in place of injured Larry Taylor on special team. Not sure what to think now. Maybe Huf sitting out a good veteran in offense is trying to send a message to everyone. It doesn't matter if you are an all-star or one of the best in the CFL in the past few years, if you are not producing you will sit out. Who's next?
DEFENSE:
As mentioned earlier, Huf is trying to send a message on both sides. There is a rumour that veteran Defensive Lineman Devon Claybrooks will be sitting out in this game. Claybrooks played with some rookie DLine last game. The DLine was awful against the run and the short passes. BC Lions practically gained a lot of yardages on those short passes. Looks like Charleston Hughes will be back in the lineup tomorrow.
I can't really blame the secondary for the Stamps. They pretty much shut down Simon, Bruce, Gore and others all game. Bruce touchdown was a short pass and he ran the ball for a TD.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Not sure what to say about the special team last game. They were good at times and were terrible at other times. In the second half alone, they gave up a blocked punt for a touchdown and Cornish fumbled the ball on a good return. On the other hand, Anthony Parker did a good job reading a trick play by McCallum (passing the ball to Gore instead of punting it). Parker intercepted the ball. Larry Taylor got injured after a good return. BC Lions player hit him late out of bounced and no penalty was called. Kicker Rene Paredes was good on his field goal attempts. It looks like he will still dress against the TiCats even though starting kicker Rob Maver is now healthy.
************************************************** **
With the Eskimos lost to Montreal last night, Calgary can gained first place spot with the win against the Hamilton Tigercats. The question now is, which offense are we going to see tomorrow. Is it Jekkyl or Hyde, is it Frank or Hank? Hamilton gave up a lot of QB sacks in the last two games and gave up a lot of rushing yardages. They were outscored 81-36 in those last two games. Last time the Stamps played the same type of struggling team (Edmonton on Labour Day), they couldn't sustain a lot of pressures on the QB and instead their offense gave up a few QB sacks on a struggling defense. I hope tomorrow's game is not a repeat of that Labour Day..... a case of overconfident on both sides.
GO STAMPS GO!!!

Our O-line is looking especially bad today, which is frustrating cause Burris and the receivers look good so far.
The defenders are all over Burris, he's having to scramble way too much.

I can't believe how bad football players are at recovering a fumble. Do they not practice that ever? A simple hook slide and that was Stamps football....never ceases to amaze me!

Agreed, you'd think the balls was greased or something. So many touches, but no one falls on it.

24-14, but it think that it was 17-14 when that was posted. Yeah I get tired of people ready to through in the towel before the game is half over too.
It comes down to those 2 turnovers. Tie game or possibly our advantage without them. Unfortunately our O line has been really weak this year and our defense hasn't done much to create turnovers the other way (or stop drives).

I missed the first quarter, and in the time I've been watching, it's been absolute crap from the Stamps. Absolutely no positives.
