Default Living Canadian For One Year

I did a quick search on the guys name and couldn't find a topic on this but thought it was interesting. I was actually reminded of this guy when OilKiller was ripping on the Canadian media content in the Zappo thread.

I honestly don't think I could do it for the exact reason OilKiller brings up in the other thread, Canadian media/content is brutal!

Anyone think they could last a year?

CP is powered by Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd....a UK company. Can you do without CP for a year?

The media thing wouldn't bother me at all. It would be the food part. Buying only Canadian fruits and vegitables, especially in the winter, would suck.

Could be worse. Could live American for a year.

Imagine how hard that would be without oil?

Pretty tough to do in a world full of multinational companies. Final assembly of items might occur in Canada but chances are the raw materials and components were sourced outside of Canada.

If you read the link you will discover he is not doing all of this for 12 months. As an example, he is only doing the "internet" for one month. Some of the things he only has to do for a couple months.

He also touches on this in one of the updates he gave on soap. He is trying to do things "as Canadian" as he can. Most of the stuff "made in Canada" is still outsourced parts.

He breaks it down...

Quote:
  • Gold – The product is designed, manufactured and entirely sourced in Canada.
  • Silver – The product is designed and manufactured in Canada, but its constituent parts or ingredients don’t all originate here.
  • Bronze – The product is designed here, but neither manufactured nor entirely sourced in Canada.
So he is trying to get as much 'Gold' product he can and if not he works down the list.

I'm not sure I understand...did somebody misplace all the oil in Alaska, Texas, the Dakotas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, the gulf states, etc.?

Where I live, it's also pretty hard to travel very far without seeing natural gas wells.

That's awesome!

Hey I never said it was a good idea or he was doing a good job but it makes you think about how little is made/from Canada.

It ranges from tough to nearly impossible to buy only Canadian, but the sentiment is laudable.

Everyone in Canada should strive to support (buy) Canadian products as much as possible (when there is a choice to be made).

I try to and it is difficult.

I don't get it? Why do they think there is no oil in the US?
