I have this messed up eye disease in my left eye and starting to develop in my right. Its called kerataconus. Basically, my cornea, which is supposed to be sphereical, is turning into a cone which in turn results in blurred vision. Anyways, apparently only 1 out of 2000 get it and to correct it, you can wear glasses if its spotted early enough, wear hard lenses or have a corneal transplant. Since I dont want a knife opening up my eye and am too far into the condition for glasses, I have to wear these contact lenses.
I know these lenses were the norm a decade ago, but as a disposable lens user for the last 4 years, the transition period between the lenses has been painful to say the least. Every 2 minutes, its buggin me. If I dont think about em, I dont notice it, but its hard not to think about a hard piece of plastic on your eyeball. My favorite is when I dropped the lens on the counter and it made a sound. I found that hilarious. Anyways, the last day or two, they have gotten better, Im starting to get used to it, but I just wanted to vent. Anyone else here been thru what I am going thru?? Im sure there is.....lets hear some stories.
"The correct title is Anyone Wear HarD contacts" Man, I should hit preview post first!!

My girlfriend has this and is constantly complaining about it. Apparently the hard ones fall out of your eye really easily because she's always losing hers. At $200 a pair, that's not something you really want happening, so there's been lots of times where I've helped her comb the bathroom for them... once we even had to take the sink apart when they fell down the drain.
I wear the soft ones and have never had any problems with them.

Never had to wear contacts. I don't think that I could.
I can't even put eye drops in my eyes they're so sensitive. I just can't open them knowing that something is going to touch them.
So I totally sympathize with you Vanflamesfan. It's not a problem that I would deal with well.

I love my contacts (they are only for vision though). I have the day and night contacts and I am able to leave them in for a whole month without ever taking them out to wash them. My eyes are really sensitive and the used to bother me when I wore regular contacts.
I will get laser eye correction sometime in the near future though.

You might be surprised at the ability of your eyes to adapt to that if you had to wear contacts.

Exactly.
When I first got contacts it would take me about 30 mins to get them in - my eyes would not stop blinking everytime I moved my finger near them. within a week it was taking me a minute or two.

I was told by an optomitrsit had the same thing and hated the hard contacts. There was no way I was going to wear them. I went to the doctor eye guy (opthomologist??) and he told me that he could see why the optomotrist would think I had it but actually didn't and there was no reason to worry.
Not saying that this will hapen to you but something to consider.
If I would have been told that I had to wear the hard contacts there was no way that was going to happen so I guess I would have had to look into getting the surgery.

As a former user of most every form of contact lense and eyeglass, having been legally blind for 20yrs, I have to say going under the Knife/laser was the best thing ever. I had it done at Gimble's place in the Northwest and everybody involved was awesome. If you can be considered at all a candidate for any of the procedures available I say suck it up princess, it ain't so bad...except maybe the expense. That little white pill is a great thing and I was awake for the whole thing. It took maybe 1/2 hr 45 minutes for both eyes! That was 7 years ago now and my vision is still better than 20/20 in both eyes. Needless to say I'm an extremely happy camper! I'm not sure I would go anywhere than the Gimbel eye center though as I have heard some negative stories from people that I know who went to the others.

I have done research on the disease in my eye and from what I gather, I cant get the laser surgery.....It would cure my perscription, but it wouldnt cure the disease........then I looked at the pics of the corneal transplant and I was like no way.......ill wear the lenses..........that was just gross

yeah, I havent dropped one yet, but I am waiting for the day.......Im scared going driving and then go to rub the eye because of the wind and then the lens falls out........I cant afford to lose one...........god, I hate the lenses........well I hate them in comparison to the disposables that I used to wear...........
Just curious.......does your girlfriend have the same condition that I do and if so..did the lenses correct it, or least help out
