My 100 year old Aunt "Kitty" passed away yesterday morning, which is sad.. because im not a morning person. (hi ooo)

Seriously, she was 100 years old, born in 1904. Smoked, drank some, but what a crazy woman. I don't know what the purpose of this thread is, but alot has happened since 1904.. I can't imagine she what the world was like to her the past 20 years or so.

Just crazy, 100.

That's a heckuva lifetime. I knew my great grandma very well, she lived to be "only" 90. Loved hearing her tell stories of life on the farm from the early 1900s. I hope I live just as long (and can still see, walk, etc)

When I was about 20 my great grandma died at something like 98 (can't remember exactly). 2 years before she passed away she got together with all her family and wrote a family history detailing when they came over from Ireland, where they lived, and how they lived. It was pretty cool, apparently they used to live in sod houses and hide in the cellar from the indians every once in a while when something was going on.

Pretty fascinating, really.

Sorry to hear.

Did she ever end up getting a certificate from Paul Martin for reaching 100?

Yup, several of her grandchildren took care of that.

I don't think anyone is too shook up over it, that is a long life to live, and she didn't waste much of it, I can tell you that.

It was fasinating talking with her the last time I did, two years ago. I sat and listened to random stories she would tell.. you don't get a chance to hear stories about the 1920's and 30's from someone who lived in it very often nowadays.

Good run no doubt... you don't really mourn something like that you celebrate it. 100 years is amazing nowadays.

Sorry to hear about your aunt. Sounds like she was quite the lady.

My grandmother will be 95 in November. She has outlived one of her children (my father) and, sadly, one of her grandchildren (my cousin). She still lives on her own, doing most of her own cooking and cleaning.

100 years huh.

Seems a bit excessive, don'tcha think?

(that is something a 98 year old prof once told me while reflecting on his life).

Good for her for having a nephew who cared.

I think it is great you posted this. I like hearing my grandma tell stories (she is not 100). Incredible to think how much change these old folks have seen.
