I bought a new dish washer and was wondering if it is hard to install by yourself? Are there any gotchas? Or is it just easier to pay someone who knows what they are doing?

Thanks for any advise.

So easy.

I'm about the least handy guy that I know. I went to Home Depot, and they have a "dishwasher package" that has everything you're gonna need. Get a few pointers on how to do proper plumbing, and go to work. I did it and it worked the first time.

Did you need to buy a whole bunch of specific tools or will normal garage tools suffice (wrench, screwdriver, hammer, etc)

Nope, just bought the package from Home Depot. I can't really remember what tools I all used, but I didn't buy anything, and my garage is nothing to get jealous about. You would probably have the same tools that I have at least, if not more.

Check this out:

Pretty simple really. If you have a garburator make sure to flow the waste water into there instead of straight into the drain stack. Helps keep the sucker clean.

Good luck but what does a guy need with a dishwasher anyway?!?

We're a movin' on up,
(We're a movin on up.)
To the east side.
(Mo-vin on up.)
To a de-luxe apartment,
In the sky-.

We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen,
A beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lot of trying
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin our turn at bat.
As long as we live
It's you and me baby.
There ain't nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the link - I'll give it a go.

Good luck Weezy, I imagine it's not too hard of a task. With the information already provided for you in this thread, you should be fine.

If the dishwasher is European (Bosch, Miele) then you may want to be careful about doing it yourself.

Easiest thing I ever did, I just chucked a apron at the little lady and told her to get to scrubbin.

LOL...I'm the exact opposite, I tell her not to touch the dishes because I'm such a clean freak I only trust the dishwasher to do a perfect shining job each time.

I installed a Bosch in my home about a year ago. As mentioned in replies above, this was actually a pretty simple job.

Definitely do it yourself. Not worth throwing away $100+ to pay someone else to do it.
