I'm thinking of buying a big screen TV. I'm looking for opinions on what would be the best way to go.

I want a TV that will display High-def signals and wouldn't cost too much ($1500.00 to 2500.00 cdn) and has great picture quality.

I don't care if it's DLP, LCD, Plasma,LCD projection, CRT or whatever...as long as it makes me happy when I'm watching movies and TV...

Opinions?

Two good places to go and research are http://www.hometheaterforum.com and http://www.avsforum.com.

I haven't done any research lately but I'd definitely want DVI for input. My old Sony XBR stops at component video. And if I was in the market, I wouldn't jump to get a Sony again. There is better value out there; I'd personally take a look at Toshiba model such as:

For your price range I can only suggest the following with good conscience:

Sony Grand WEGA 42" LCD Rear Projection...The King of LCD Rear Projection

JVC 48" CRT Rear Projection...decent for what it is. Definitely affordable.

Or you can go the projector route...do you have a dark basement? No HD though.

whattya mean no hd on a projector? Lots of decent priced projectors will show true HD.....have a look at the z2 or z3 from sanyo....a true 16:9 lcd high def projector. The z2 is around the 2k price range now.

I concur. I have a true hd 16x9 HS10 that I paid just over $2000 for over 2 years ago.

A dedicated theatre is best, if you have the room or the willingness to renovate. Ancilliary costs can add up though, even if you DYI. And remember, garbage in, garbage out which would suck royally on a 110" screen.
