Default Temporary Family Adoption - 1 Month in the Summer

Hi All,

I have a 15 year old cousin who has been through a lot in his life from parents with drug addictions, prosititution, and incarsiration.

He and I spent a lot of time together when he was younger and then I moved away to Calgary.

I'd like to bring him out to Calgary from Ontario for a month this summer, however I'm not sure what he can do during the day while I work?

Does anybody have any reccomendations?

Hookers and Blow? They probably have discounts for kids.

Seriously though, there are a ton of day camps around that could fill some of that time. Check the Parks and Rec website or in your surrounding communities, they might have something posted for summer already. I assume that it won't be enough to fill his entire day but a leisure center/YMCA 10 time pass would work as well, I know my 14 year old niece swears by the YMCA in Crowfoot as a Friday night activity.

Take some time off during the month so you can spend some with him.

Google "recreation for teenagers in Calgary summer 2011"

The kid will be worn out by the time he goes back home.

BTW, nice of you to look out for the kid, hope all goes well.

By the way, does this mean that his parents are free for the summer? Cause they sound like a lot of fun.

Find out what he's into if you can.

Maybe talk to some of your neighbours to see if there's any work he could do around their yards. A 15 year old is probably looking to make some money.

I was going to suggest the same kind of thing. When I was 15, I spent a few weeks as a framer's labourer. I actually loved it. Learned a ton, made money, got some muscle, got a tan. (oh come on, we're all vain at that age)
As long as it doesn't seem like you're sending the kid to boot camp, there's a good chance he'll enjoy doing some work.

Shawn works for a bank so there probably isn't too much they could do in the way of work.

A 15 year old and a lawn mover could make some bucks going door to door asking neighbours if they would like thier lawn cut.
