The liberals have cancelled the Opposition Day in parliment that was scheduled for Wednesday.
I guess the opposition gets 8 days a session to table there motions, etc. and the liberals get to pick when the days are. Supposidly they can put them all in the last two weeks of the session, and then cancel the session early, making it so the opposition cannot table a no confidence motion to bring down the government.
I'm suprised they can actually do this, this has got to be one of the worst examples of parlimentary fudgery (is that a phase?) I've ever heard of.
JHC... I vote for treason and hang the bas**rds..
:mad2:

Mr. Martin is a pouchy cheeked weasel.
Has to nerve to talk about political opportunism. Pfffft, the last 2 elections were timed precisely to be the worst possible times for the other parties. Hypocritcal, weasly bunch of pockmarks.

Man, it doesn't take much to get some people frothing at the mouth.
If your threshold for finding misconduct is so low that alarms go off when a party takes advantage of completely legitimate parliamentary rules, then I suspect you're going to be disappointed no matter who is in goverment.

Yeah, this is no sneakier than when Prime Ministers add senators, or Premeirs redraw ridings to ensure a greater chance of their representatives winning.

What did you expect?
Sorry if you didn't deserve that, but you come off sounding either totally naive, or with a huge axe to grind.
If you've experienced politics much first-hand, you'd probably know that this example is weak, at best, of any kind of political corruption. Parties do what's good for them and bad for others.
What world do you live in?

This action struck me as odd simply because not 2 days earlier, Mr. Martin was giving a lecture to all the other parties that they were using the Gomery trial and the reality of a Liberal minority goverment as political opportunism. (Duh!!)
I found it very funny at the time, then to have this follow makes it even more humerous. Mr. P. Martin has not shown himself to be a good leader that is plain. Poor guy, he was spent his whole life struggling to get there, then when he does, he sucks at it.
So you see, I am neither frothing nor naive.

He does suck at it, no doubt about that, but I don't know that he's been struggling to get there his whole life. He also collects boats.

Didn't Martin get those boats as a gift from Paul Desmarais of Power Corp who just happens to be close to former Prime Minister.Jean Cretien whose daughter married one of the Desmarais?

I am bothered that he stripped the Canadian flag from his fleet in order to enjoy the less onerous tax burden of other countries. Way to go, PM! You give me confidence that I can make it as a businessman in Canada paying taxes to you!
ok, so that did sound bitter, but blistering barnacles, that guy is dope.

Laugh, yeah that's it. Someone just gave him a fleet of tankers and a business that brings in hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
I don't know anything about how he got into the business or paid for the boats but I'm quite certain he paid for them somehow.
My point was that he was a businessman, and a pretty succesful one at that, before he got into politics. That he wasn't some career politician, pining away for decades as a backbencher and policy hack until he got his current gig, as was suggested.

What's more sickening to me is the time the official opposition (an important role in a healthy democracy) has had to get themselves together, yet they're still total losers whom I suspect will still have problems even getting a minority government in power. It was only a couple a months ago that they put to rest some areas surrounding abortion. They may not have been wasting money but they have been wasting time. Wasting it in a fight to find out whether they're more value based than just fiscally responsible traditional Cons.
The problem is they can't win either, becuase if they even mention gay marriage they're perceived (rightly) as wasting time on a relatively unimportant area, and show their social engineering agenda, but if they don't their infighting probably continues .
I can't understand why more aren't angry or baffled by them.

Its smarmy and underhanded, but a very legitimate action.
PMs have a lot of little tricks up their sleeves, one of which being forbidding Harper to run for election. He would never do it, but he could. This action isn't quite in that category, but its definitely something that convention says the PM shouldn't do, though he has every right to. Interesting to see if this causes him any problems.

This is a line of reasoning I don't get. Every poll I have seen shows the nation divided almost 50:50 on gay marriage and someting close to that on abortion. This tells me that a lot of people would support a party that has the same view as them. Your comments imply that it is not such a divisive issue.
I have never seen a poll that says 90% are in favour of gay marriage or 80% are in favour of abortion for example.
Many posts in this forum seem to imply that type of ratio, or take it as a forgone conclusion. The reality is, right or wrong, there are close to half of Canadians that don't support gay marriage or abortion.
Who knows, maybe that is what does get them elected one day?

The start of yet another thread about the Liberals degenerating into one about the Conservatives?
Liberals Bad?
Conservatives... blah blah blah
Liberals Bad v2
Conservatives... same blah blah blah
Liberals Bad v3
Conservatives... same blah blah blah.
It's getting old.

Mr. Dithers is in fact one of the richest people in North America. He is a shipping tycoon.....
WHO......
Go figure for a LIBERAL....
Has his ships under a foreign country's flag so as to avoid paying the taxes...
he imposes on the rest of the 'unwashed' in Canada.
BTW: Great move businesswise. The taxes in Canada are horrendous. A tad....hypocritical for a politician.
