25 years ago the Challenger Space Shuttle caught fire and exploded 73 seconds after a takeoff.
For me it's one of those days that I remember where I was when I first found out. I was in grade 4 and as our class returned from Gym, our teacher, who was a real dingbat of a broad non challently says...oh yeah the space shuttle blew up. No our class didn't watch horrified like many in the US did, but I was pretty shocked, and remember going home at lunch to watch it on the News.
Not quite 2 years earlier my family had went to Florida on vacation and visited the Kennedy Space Station. We missed the February 3rd 1984 launch by about a week. I remember that the talk at the station was all about the Challenger. It floored me when I heard what had happened.
First I heard on the news that Nelson Mandella is 92 years old...realizing that it's 20 years ago since I was in grade 9 when he was in the news for being released from prison. Than I saw the challenger thing...For me it's hard to believe that it's been 25 years since it happened, I remember it like it happened yesterday.
