GM Duborg (Du = Danish for "the") signed Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Breen earlier today. Breen has apparently been pretty good for the Heat this year and I'm short a D-man after the following trade.

To Florida

Jason Arnott
2011 5th round pick
2012 3rd round pick
2.5 million in cap.

Arnott and Sturm are both very similarly rated, and both are having a mediocre year. The big difference is that Arnott's deal expires next year, where Sturm has 2 left. On the flip side, LA gets a player who's very good in the sim this year, and some cap flexibility in order to acquire other good players.

Another weird move by Florida. I get the point (cap comes off the books at the end of the year) but you were here last season. You are going to be VERY disappointed in the UFA crop.

Actually Arnott's still on the books for next year. It's the 2012-2013 season that I get the break in.

I know I'm doing things a little oddly, as I've got my bottom 6, goaltending and defense more or less set (not the specific players but their spots taken) but am kind of barren in the top 6 forward area, but that will come along. Just takes time to get them.

I'm not likely to actually sign anyone in UFA despite having about 25 million open to do so.....
