I think the Flames were once a featured article as well. Maybe there's a Calgary based editor? Maybe they are a hockey fan?

I know one time somebody on this forum asked this "Did you know" comment to be added:
Did you know...that Calgary Flames defenceman Adam Pardy is from Bonavista, Newfoundland?

I still can't believe they ran it without changing it much. I told the reviewers that the entry was an inside joke, expecting they wouldn't run it.

And yes, the Hitmen article is mine too. The fourth one I've had up as Today's Featured Article. My favourite of the four is Terry Fox, especially since the bloody CBC plagiarized part of it for one of their stories!

I used to entertain myself by searching wikipedia for entries on small (less than 2000 population) towns in America and adding the information that "they were the birthplace of Chuck Norris".

Editors determine what articles become featured, yes... but there's a few 'directors' that pick what articles appear on the front page. You can, however, submit a request for a specific day if it is some significance (anniversary, etc.)
