Passport question
There really needs to be a quick question thread...
Anyways a couple years ago I was planning on going on a trip and applied for a passport. 4 weeks later it arrived and I was told to go pick it up..well some stuff happened and the trip got cancelled and I never ended up picking up the passport.
Would I have to re-apply for the passport? or would they still have the one I got a couple years ago?
Thanks.

You had to go pick yours up? I got mine delivered right to my house within 2 weeks... and I didn't even rush the passport.
But something tells me I highly doubt they still have yours from a couple years ago, but I guess you can always call and ask how long they keep passports for.

Call them and ask. Likely you will have to reapply for a lost passport.
You paid for a passport then never picked it up?

strange. you had to submit your original birth certificate or cdn citizenship document as well as some other original proof of ID. Did they keep that/throw it out with the passport?

I would guess that you have to go through the entire new passport application. Without your old passport, I don't think you can do the quick renew. I'm not certain about this though, so feel free to correct me

I really don't think you need to be told this but:
a) You filled out documents
b) Went through the annoyance of getting pictures taken with those crazy requirements that never seem to be met.
c) you sent in your original birth certificate
d) got them to produce a government ID with your picture
e) paid $100
f) Left that stuff all unclaimed, possibly to go missing and end up in somewhere you never want your ID to be.
Seems smart!

Seeing as how a Canadian passport is one of the most secure (and coveted) pieces of identification in the world, I'm kind of shocked that you didn't follow up on the process when you started a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure there was an option to have it delivered by courier service, but it cost something like 20 bucks extra so I opted to pick it up. Not a smart choice.
I don't remember the exact details.

Well it's easy for you to judge from where you're typing.
I was going through some stuff in my life at that time and the last thing on my mind was my passport.

I never had to submit anything. They photocopied my Birth certificate and I.D.

I didn't mean to judge. I was just pointing out what you did from start to finish because taken all together, it seems comical.
I am sure everyone has screwed something up in their life just as badly or worse.

I see. You applied in person at their office.
Obviously, when done by mail ( as I have done in the past) they need orignals, not copies.

Also the reason why I like to apply in person at the office. Not a big fan of mailing original pieces of ID. I kinda paranoid like that.

That passport is air pollution, welcome to going through the whole process again and paying for it.

Quit being so touchy. You forgot to pick up your passport you ordered. The most important document we own.
That screams lazy. True or not - so what?

I'm going to side with Puckluck here. Not that he shouldn't have picked it up; but that other things with life could have gotten in the way. Weeks stretch into months; and then months into years.
My question for those so quick to judge; who here with a valid driver's license uses their passport for anything other than travel?
I'm not sure what PL was up to; but I know there have been times where I have been going to school full time and also working full time to support myself. Without a pressing need for that passport; I can see where picking it up falls down the list of priorities. Then next thing you know it's 2 years later.

Here's an idea, why don't you call the passport office and ask them if they still have your passport for pickup, genius?

I suggest sneaking into the passport office to avoid the embarrassment of admitting you never picked it up.

Hey, I'm just saying. You made this thread almost 14 hours ago and haven't had a definitive response. This clearly isn't something that happens often, as most people don't just decide not to pick up their passport for a couple years.

There's the number for Passport Canada incase you can't find it!
