Back to the Future

by SCOOP DAPOOP

In the most astonishing development in CPHL’s short history, the league and it’s commissioners today announced 2 expansion teams will be added to the fold for the 2005-2006 season. League commissioner Dayel “oldie but moldie” Petersen convened an unexpected news conference earlier today and dropped the bombshell on the collected media. Stunned silence was followed by the first question from Fatty McButterpants of the Edmonton Sun inquiring “where exactly are these teams to be located?” Commisioner Petersen then handed the duties over to fellow bigwig “Flambers”, who stated simply, and with a big smile, “we will have two more Canadian franchises, one in Winnipeg and one in Quebec City”. At this announcement, the room began to roar its approval.

Clearly this action could not of been taken lightly, and when queried about the chain of events that led to todays shocker, Petersen had this to say. “Well we started this process about 2 years ago and have kept it confidential because we didn’t want to get anyones hopes up in case something went wrong, and the process had to be pulled back.

Thanks to an exhaustive effort from long missing commissioner T99, (pat pat) the realization of a long time goal is now very near. We have a couple things we need to still work on such as an expansion draft, solid leases for the stadiums, a divisional and conference realignment, and filling the GM roles for the new squads, but those things will be decided among the leagues executives as well as input from every GM under contract come the conclusion of this season”.

In a brave effort to expand the fledgling leagues seemingly endless popularity, this decision comes as a prelude to some rule changes that will also be discussed among GM’s before implementation.

Flashbacks of a Dale Hawerchuk saucer pass, a Michel Goulet wrister, or an Eddy Olczyk howitzer, will now be rivaled by future stars in those respective, and respected, uniforms of days gone by.

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the Jets and the Nordiques…part deux.

I will reserve my exhuberance until I hear how the rules for protecting players on my team, if any. And how does this affect trades I have in principal already done for when trading resumes?

When I find that out, I will know more if I like it or hate it.

TBD Red....lots of stuff to consider yet. We will strike a commitee to get the rules together ASAP. Tranny already has most of the stuff in his head...we just need to shake the cobwebs outta there first.

Pfffft on Becky

Lots of thing to consider here folks, but most of it will be pretty straight forward things.

Obviously the expansion draft will be the biggest concern for all....but think about it this way.... to stock both the CPHL and AHL teams, it will take a total of 98 players. thats just over 3 from each existing franchise. No big deal considering 1.5 of those players (on average) will be drafted from the AHL team.

There are a TON of AHL level guys available to this day that arent on anyones rosters.

The big one will be how we decide to go about the CPHL protection of players. I already know we wont be able to make everyone happy...but it will be fair for everyone involved.

Expansion fees etc, will be discussed among the commisioners, and from there we will open up debate to ALL GM's as well. Agents can sit and watch, (What they do best anyhow).

This will be fun and likely somewhat unprecedented among FHL circles.

great idea. I think I did suggest a winnipeg franchise once upon a time...although I think I wanted to relocate the Sabres .

will be interesting to see how things develop re the expansion draft....hopefully those of us with lots of young players will have time to react prior to losing players in the expansion draft etc

We actually plan to catch all GMs flatfooted and unaware looober...LOL

Of course time will be given to consider all moves...even if we have to push the Entry Draft back a bit.
