I have no specifics regarding this game but a few of my friends that played beta had nothing good to say about it. I had beta access but after i looked into it never even tried it.

Thematically I thought it sounded great and followed some info about the game for a while, but I was afraid that's about how it would go.
There haven't been any really good MMO's since UO and Dark Age of Camelot

Metascore of 72
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/th...critic-reviews
Mixed reviews, some glowing, some not (like with most games).
Looks interesting to me. Wish there was a 10 day trial or something to try before you buy,

I expected a thread about Alex Mack making porn. I am not impressed.

I'm waiting - I really like the concept on paper, but I'm not sure how it will play out.
I think I'll try it once the price comes down, or a trial is offered. With GW2 coming out soon, there isn't much reason for me to rush right in.

Now that you mentioned that, I am now very dissappointed as well.

Is it really that different than any other game?
How many games get more than a month play time? Few and far between I think.
How many if they suck? Lucky if they get a week.
I do see a lot of 'failing' MMO switch to a free to play model though, and I guess it seems to be working, although I don't follow it too closely.
I have a couple friends who have played DDO since it came out (like 7 years now?) and when it went FTP they cancelled their subscriptions and earned/bought the additional content. Now they have a permanently free to play MMO with all the content, assuming they play enough during each expansion to keep unlocking the new stuff.

Seems like every other MMO coming out these days, flash in the pan.
I also second the UO and DAOC comment. I still have both of my accounts for those games. Actually, one of them for DAOC is free for life so I log in every now and then to see whats happening. It seems that the frontiers are always busy, but the fact that it is all condensed into one server makes me sad. 8v8 is also limited now to 2 or 3 groups a night, and I always hated set up fights.

Metascore seems a bit low based on the reviews I've read. The writing is supposedly pretty witty and interesting. Not that I'll pay for an MMO, just not my thing. Just the thought gives me a headache. But if I was going to play one, this one would be it.
People seem pretty burned out on the genre.

I really enjoyed WoW back in the early-early days. After playing DAoC for a good five years prior, I was ready for an upgrade of sorts. I really wasn't a fan of the BC expansion though (well, other than finally getting to play a shammy with my guild instead of against my guild).
My fondest MMO memories are still from my DAoC days though. It was such a great time back then. Shrouded Isles is still one of my all-time favourite expansions for any game, regardless of the genre. Unfortunately, Trials of Atlantis is my all-time least-favourite expansion for any game. It really moved DAoC out of the "socializing-while-adventuring" model and dropped it completely in the "capitalizing-while-achieving" model, almost overnight.
Mind you, I played (mostly) on Gaheris... I moved there the day it went live (with SI), but I played a wizard on Merlin for about a year prior to that.
I used to lead a weekly server-wide SI epic dungeon raid for a while there. Sidi, TG and Gala. I was the second raid leader on the server to successfully clear out all three dungeons (this was long before ToA launched)! #braggingrights
Mmmm... the good ol' days...

They keep recycling gameplay for the latest MMOs instead of doing anything interesting or innovative. Essentially treating this like a latest version of EA sports NFL. Instead they keep pumping tons of money into stories / graphics which is exactly what people who play MMOs aren't that interested in.

As someone who doesn't play MMOs, it's striking how similar the gameplay seems from game to game. It's also funny to look at videos of The Old Republic, for example, with two dozen players galloping around on the same football field, each on the same fateful, highly personal quest, and still no one's talking to each other. It's weird. It gives me a strange lonely feeling just watching it.
I'm a fan of Ragnar Tornquist. To me it's so stupid that he's spent years developing Secret World and apparently will continue to. He could have released two single-player adventures in this time.
