Default Gillies on waivers. Upd: clears and assigned to Stockton

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
David Rittich and Cam Talbot are the only two goaltenders on the ice at #Flames practice. Jon Gillies has been placed on waivers.

No surprise. You knew this would happen when the team signed Talbot. It was waivers or trade

Don't think they put him on waivers by the deadline today. Think he is on waivers starting on Friday.

They'll probably take him to San Jose to serve as the backup tonight and just leave him behind in California.

Sucks but there isn’t room unless there is an injury

Well it sucks that he sucks. He was one of the top NHL goaltending prospects at one time and it seems like this organization has a curse when it comes to goaltending prospects busting.

Too bad he never panned out there was lots of potential there. Is he even going to be given playing time in Stockton? Or will they try to move him out there to to make room for the other Prospects?

The crease in my opinion in Stockton is for Parsons and Zagi (not even attempting that name yet)

Zag looked almost good enough to be an NHL backup, so if or when this year something happens I expect Z to get a few games in for us. But Gillies to me is written off.

I'd think the organization wants Zagidulin and Parsons getting the starts in the AHL. Not sure what that means for Gillies.

He played well at times last year. Rittich was awful last preseason so I don’t put to much stock into it all

I generally see a prospect who goes on waivers as a blown pick. Even if his value rebounds, it is currently zero.

Because he is on his ELC, Zagidulin could also be sent to the ECHL. They might prefer that because it would allow both Parsons and Zag to carry the bulk of the workload for each team rather than having them split playing time in Stockton.

Gillies has never given the team a reason to keep him up with the big team. Rittich did that last year. Also, Rittich has had pretty good AHL numbers, which is a good indicator of NHL success. Gillies has not... He's been pretty bad overall, and has shown no signs of being an NHL calibre goalie... could change, but as of now he doesn't have very much value to the organization.
