The entire ending to Planes/Trains is just fantastic. Wonderful performances from both actors, especially Candy. When he says "I don't have a home" and mentions that his wife had died years ago, it just breaks your heart.
And then the shot of the two of them carrying Del's trunk down the street, followed by Neil introducing him to his family: "I'd like you to meet a friend of mine..." Just pure cinematic perfection. Arguably John Hughes' masterpiece.

Back in the day when the Flames were broadcast on 66CFR they had a show on Sunday Morning called Kid Talk. It was kind of cool (for kids anyways) 2 kids would interview celebrities and they actually had some pretty big guests. (Brian Mulrony etc.) Anyways they did a long interview with John Candy and he was such an engaging funny guest and as a kid it was nice because they asked the kind of questions that kids would be curious about. It's a shame he's gone.
as a kid, my introduction was all of those amazing SCTV episodes (a number of which were filmed in Edmonton of all places). Classic characters. Made everyone laugh. My kids love him, too.
He was one of those rare celebs who you NEVER heard anyone say a bad word about. Be it fans or actors he worked with, it seemed that he was genuinely loved by anyone he met.
Also consider that he was arguably the most talented member of the SCTV crew, and that's an all-star team.
