Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2024 - Round 14 (Run Off)
Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!
As per usual ...
1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to mid to late August
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

Mews off the board.
Battaglia ranked higher than Mews by scouting staff and drafted earlier.
So going with Battaglia.

He dominated the BCHL a year ago, putting up close to 2PPG, always making something happen and scoring at will, weaponizing his wrist and snap shots. He did it while showing good habbits defensively. The main knack against him has been his skating. We drafted him because he had great hands, and could stick handle and make plays in tight. All that, plus he's a pretty big guy.
He had a much more modest first season in the NCAA last year, putting up 12G, 25P in 36GP. I think the Flames see him as a defensively responsible 3rd liner/middle 6 option, that can pitch in with some offense. I didn't watch any NCAA games, so I don't have any deeper insight unfortunately.

and those numbers aren't bad for a first year player in the NCAA. By all accounts, he was very impressive for his full, 200 ft game.

Suniev (November birthday, so old for his draft year)
NHLe of 19 in his draft year
NHLe of 22 in his draft + 1 year
Battaglia (March birthday, so neither old nor young for his draft year)
NHLe of 25 in his draft year
Conclusion: Battaglia!

Hell this could almost be called a tie. I’ll probably abstain from voting from here on out as I know almost nothing of the rest of the prospects.

Both seems like good prospects, though both scouting reports mention skating as a weakness.

Someone already touched on it, but it's still pretty crazy that a recent 2nd round pick is battling for 14th in our prospect pool.

My guess is next year we are looking back at this list and wondering how he fell so far.

There was a runoff at 14 last year as well - it included Ciona and Schwindt

Hopefully better sign than when Smith and Macdonald went 18/19 after going in 2nd round in 2014
