How to destroy the Internet!
http://gizmodo.com/5912383/how-to-destroy-the-internet
Quote:
Remember when Anonymous threatened to destroy the entire internet? We laughed, and ultimately their words were just hacker hubris. But it got us thinking—could someone actually destroy the Internet?
We did some digging, and guess what: With enough effort, the entire thing can be shattered. Physically. Completely. Here's how to kill the net.
|
Fascinating look at how the Internet could be destroyed, in not so much the actual topic but how it describes the physical workings of the Internet.

Wouldn't removing all of the porn pretty much do the same thing?

Not possible. There is simply too much porn to simply remove it all.
When the world ends in 2012 all that will remain will be porn.

So hire a team of 10,000 mercenaries to cut the cables that they've conveniently put in the article. Then fire a nuke into each of the cities listed.
Then for the final kill stroke detonate 4 or 5 high yield nuclear weapons in orbit to shred all non shielded consumer electronics.
Then open up my store with an exclusive license to sell lite-brites and etch a sketches. The mercenaries would probably cost you a 100 million. The nukes more so, maybe use conventional ammonium nitrate bombs.
Doesn't sound too hard.

Removing all the porn wouldn't destroy the internet, it would just destroy the point of it.

I thought you just needed to send two trucks in opposite directions through the internet tube.
This article is great, thanks OP! One of the things that always causes my head to shake is when people yatter on about the "newness" of the internet, or more recently "the cloud".
The internet isn't some virtual space that exists in the ether... it's made of real, physical stuff. And I'm pretty sure the root servers are old 8086's running out of Al Gore's basement linked via token ring.
