Did you clean the flame sensor with a fine grit sandpaper? If it's firing again, your sensor shouldn't cause you further problems. I think carbon/muck builds up on the rods or something which cause no flame detection and for safety it won't fire.

When this happened to mine a few years ago the part was $100. I figured it would be $20 like a water heater thermocouple. Since it was so much I didn’t bother replacing it and it hasn’t had any issues for the past 2 or 3 years

Its always a good idea to have spare parts, but that isn't really a Sunday emergency. I had the same thing happen in October and its been fine since.
