The Best Sandwich Ever
Alright, thread idea, but first the set-up.
Never been a big "bring the lunch to work" guy, mostly because I'm not big into making sandwiches or leftovers, but also because I tend to hit the same sandwiches up over and over. It's alright, but it gets tiring.
But hey, we ALL make sandwiches, so I had an idea: What is YOUR best sandwich? Whether it's the best sandwich you've ever made, the one you make the most, the sandwich your mom used to make, or one you happened upon at a restaurant, what sandwich just does it for you? Throw down the make-up of the sandwich and let's get some love going.
For me? It's simple but it's a fail-safe:
Bacon & Tomato on Rye
Any kind of bacon, any kind of tomato, ideally some dark rye, a bit of mayo and some pepper and that's it. Lightly toast the bread and you're golden.

I'll bet you thought this was an original thread idea!
That's not to say the idea isn't worthy of a new thread. 6 years is a long time, but it goes to show you the depth of the calgarypuck OT forum!

My favorite sandwich is my homemade beef dip...
I'll slow roast a nicely seasoned rib roast and slice it thin. Then I'll toss the thin slices into a simmering pot of onion soup, fresh pepper, rosemary, garlic and red wine. Then you pile that stuff high onto a lightly toasted baguette slathered in garlic aioli and provolone cheese. Dip in the roast juices or canned beef consomme (its wonderful with straight beef consomme).
Oh man... I gotta make these again soon.

i would agree that a quality sandwhich starts with rye bread. sometimes I find and onion bun a great change of pace.
As for meat (in no particular order) I enjoy pastrami, ham, salami, corned beef, proscuitto and garlic roast beef.......
i saw a place in Vegas called the Earl of Sandwhich in Vegas that I really wanted to go to; however, not only does my wife not like other women, she in not a fan of sandwhiches, so I went without on several fronts..........

Ham and cheese on sourdough.
Some mayo on the bread, gouda or havarti cheese, and ham of your choice. Such good comfort food. So good microwaved for 20-30 seconds at work. I brought a stack of these to work for a potluck and everyone loved them.
For home, I like to stick a cheese and tomato sandwich into the panini press.
Gonna be trying some of these sandwiches above.

You are crazy, good sir. Just crazy. A good egg salad is amazing. Not the crappy stuff you get in those trays for work events, but egg salad on a good hearty bread with properly seasoned egg c'est tres bon.

Maybe it's my very English mother, but one of my other favourites (and quite possibly the simplest of sandwiches) is the Cucumber.
Rye or whole wheat bread (but nothing seedy)
Heaps of cucumber sliced medium
Mayo
Salt & Pepper
Classic "tea" sandwich, but it's impossibly good for the lack of ingredients. It's also the most frustrating sandwich to have a sandwich shop make, "I'd like only cucumber please, no, no other vegetables, just cucumber, more cucumber than that please, well I'm not getting anything else so I'd like some more..." etc etc.

Reminds me of the "salad" sandwiches we had growing up.

Another amazing sandwich I had a couple years back, and for some reason haven't made again:
Mix maple syrup and butter together, slather on both sides of 2 slices Rye.
Place thinly sliced macintosh apple, blackforest ham, and 5 year Baldersons white cheddar between slices.
Fry off like a grilled cheese.
My girlfriends mother made this for us and it was arguably the best sammy I've ever had... probably even better than the beef dip I posted above.
