Icon48 Unsigned RFA's around the NHL

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/rfa-res...-sheet/sn-amp/

Overview of the high profile unsigned RFA's

of note

1. Quinn Hughes
2. Elias Pettersson
3. Kirill Kaprizov
4. Brady Tkachuk
5. Rasmus Dahlin
6. Robert Thomas.

Happens every season. But seams to be quite a few high profile RFA's this season.

Vancouver still doesn't have arguably their best 2 players signed and camps have started and preseason starting this weekend.

They have over 12M in cap space.... so they could. But then they have to pay Jack next offseason. And a thats a lot of picks going out.

He would sign that offersheet in a heartbeat though.

and (assuming they offered him $9M) they would have $27M tied up in 3 defensemen. No way they can do that.

Two year contract worth $10M each season. $20M, and it gives Vancouver 2x 1st, 1x 2nd, 1x 3rd.

Their core going forward:

D: Hamilton, Hughes, Hughes, Smith, Bahl
F: Hughes, Hischier, Holtz, Zacha
G: Blackwood

...that could be pretty cool. Salary cap space and picks to acquire the 3rd Hughes brother.

Subban is gone after this season.

Edit: As Beatle17 lays out below, Hughes can't sign an offer-sheet this year.

They have the cap space to do it this year and this is the final year of Subban's deal.

Hughes isn't eligible for an offer sheet.

Beaten to the punch, here is the explanation:

From https://thewincolumn.ca/2021/08/11/h...y-are-so-rare/

"How do offer sheets work?
An offer sheet is a binding NHL contract that is offered to an eligible RFA whose rights are owned by a different NHL club. The rules of the offer sheet are the restrictions in the RFA designation. Any player who is a Group 1 RFA, 10.2.c RFA, or a UFA cannot be tendered an offer sheet.

One key example of this is the Vancouver Canucks. Elias Pettersson is eligible to sign an offer sheet as he is an RFA, whereas Quinn Hughes is not eligible to sign an offer sheet as he is a 10.2c RFA.

If a player chooses to sign an offer sheet with another NHL team, their original team—the one that holds their rights—has a choice. They can either match the offer sheet which means they inherit the signed contract as is, or they can choose not to match. If they do not match, the player is now a member of the other team with their contract being the offer sheet. In return, the original team gets compensation in the form of draft picks from the signing team, depending on what the average annual value (AAV) of the offer sheet was."

Ahhh now it makes sense why we hadn’t seen an offersheet from NJ for Hughes hahaha

Cheers for the clarification Beatle17 and Red_Baron

The 3 Stastny brothers (Peter, Anton and Marion) played for Quebec.
Three Howes, Gordie, Mark and Marty all played together in the WHA
Did three or more Sutters ever play/coach at the same time for same team?

Would be good if Hughes left the Canucks one day to join his brothers

Jack Hughes just made Tkachuk like comments about his brothers contract...and even suggested they would love to get him to NJ

But he plays in NJ so nobody cares and he isn't the worst guy ever

I think he landed in a good spot with regards to his migraines. Nevada is the 13th lowest State and Vegas the 18th lowest city in America for days with variation in barometric pressure >=0.20. Coincidentally Pennsylvania is the 31st lowest state and Philadelphia the 19th highest city in America for days with variation in barometric pressure >=0.20.

It will be interesting to see if he rebounds especially on that roster, he could explode in production versus the start of his career if his health comes back under control in a better environment for him.

Didn't all 3 sons play with him one year?

(Murray?)

I don't think Murray ever played pro hockey. Imagine that, your dad is the best player of all time (I don't care I said it). Your two brothers were really good pro's. You never play pro hockey.

Spoiler!

The fact they don’t have any cap space shouldn’t stop them huh?

Hmm...

My memory is failing me - maybe I am confusing that with them playing for the Little Caesars in Detroit, growing up.

Or maybe I am completely out to lunch - also possible.
