Don't look now but...
Some surprises around the league:
Don't look now but Jankowski is a 0.5 PPG player with a +10
Don't look now but Kuzmenko is a 0.9 PPG player this season for the flames (2nd only to Kadri)
Don't look now but Lazar has 25 points and is a +10
Don't look now but Bedard has the 3rd worst +/- in the league at -41.
Don't look now but there are 4 teams in the Eastern conference within 1 pt of the last playoff spot.

Serious question, top 4 in Jankowskis draft +12, KHL, KHL, EIHL, retired?
By my count only about 43 full time NHLs left from that draft.
If he can keep bouncing back every other season, and we wait 5-6 years, maybe Feaster will prove prophetic and Jankowski will be the best player in the NHL from that draft for a time.

Maybe he's been advised to play like McDavid.

Bedard will probably win ROTY, but for my money, Faber has had a better season. it's expected for a young guy on a terrible team, but Bedard has been a train wreck defensively. He should improve, but Faber's season has been more impressive imo.

Well there is one way .. being on for 41 more even strength goals against than for
If you watched him in junior you would have seen that the skills was off the charts but that he would have some growing to do in order to learn defensive responsibilities

True. He is a player that is used to anticipating an opportunity to go on offence… which can lead to leaving the defensive zone early. This can be a great skill to master if your teammates can be depended on to get the puck back and get the puck up the ice… but if your teammates (and especially your defence) are not very good, you end up being on the ice for a lot of goals against.

The Blackhawks have a goal differential of -108. Being -41 on a team that bad is practically a badge of honour.

He is second last on the team in plus minus (helped out a bit by the games he has missed otherwise he would be dead last).

That actually is the point. If you get enough ice time to be on for that many of your team's goals against, it means you're being relied on to face the debacle.
Bedard has an ATOI of 19:46, first among Chicago forwards.

I’m cheering for the guy. Has some skill if he can get the tenacity. And was dealt a rough hand with all the expectations. If he can be a 30-40 pt guy a year and responsible defensively I bet he will end up one of the better 2012 picks.

it was a bit of a joke, but I do think history will show that guy did belong in the top 45 of that draft, did the Flames reach a little too much? yes. was it a terrible pick? no, just not a good pick.

Lots of ice time will do that. He is playing with no one, so not unexpected.
Especially since he’s been the main component of pretty much every point he has gotten.

It wasn’t a bad pick in any way, looking back now.
That draft is brutal, the Flames actually took a homerun swing, and picked a guy who will likely have a decent NHL career.
Decent NHL player is mid first round coming out of that draft.

I did. Buddies told me the players were told to not target him. Just didn’t expect it to be that bad.

Isn’t that the definition of cherry picking?
