Roland Garros 2011
Thought I'd make a separate thread for the French Open as it will get more attention than regular tennis. There are 2 Canadian men and 2 Canadian women in the main draw.
Qualifying
Frank Dancevic [CAN] def. Victor Crivoi ROU 6-1, 6-3
Aleksandra Wozniak [CAN] def. (9) Jaime Hampton [USA] 7-5, 6-3.
Nuria Llagostera Vives ESP (4) def. Stephanie Dubois 1-6, 7-6, 6-1
Dubois was up a break in the 2nd set but blew it
Dancevic and Wozniak won three matches without losing a set.
Men's Main Draw
Last 8
(1)Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs (5)Robin Soderling (SWE)
(4)Andy Murray OR (15)Viktor Troicki (SRB) vs Juan Ignacio Chela (ARG)
-----------------------------------------
(9)Gael Monfils (FRA) vs (3)Roger Federer (SUI)
(2)Novak Djokovic (SRB)
Women's Main Draw
Last 8
(13) Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)vs (11) Marion Bartoli (FRA)
(14) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) vs (5) Francesca Schiavone (ITA)
------------------------------
(6) Na Li (CHN) vs (4) Victoria Azarenka (BLR)
(7) Maria Sharapova (RUS) vs (15) Andrea Petkovic (GER)

I can't wait. Thank you for starting the thread. I'm interested to see how Clijster's injury impacts her.
Predictions?
Men jokovic
Women: Azarenka...just picking someone different for a change, even though I love Kim.

Djokovic has a tough draw.. if seeds hold he's gotta beat
Del Potro, Gasquet, Berdych, Federer and Nadal each over 5 sets in 10 days.

Agreed. I just think because he's on such a roll, that he'll get it done. Del Potro is a bit of a dark horse. He's been up and down since coming back from his injury, but when he's been on...he's looked great.

Gasquet and Berdych MIGHT take a set of him, Del Potro is a dark horse but I don't he's recovered enough to beat Djokovic in a best of 5. I think that will be the toughest match for him if Del Potro comes in at 100%. Against Federer, straight sets for Djoker I think. Fed is declining...and fast. Djokovic - Nadal a final. Safest bet.

Apparently Danko is one of those two qualifiers in Murray and Raonic's section. He gets another qualifier in round 1 and then Murray in round 2 if he makes it - tough draw for both the canadians if Murray plays anywhere near the way he did at the Aussie.
On the plus side, it is his worst surface and if Murray goes down at any point the rest of the quarter is probably the worst one in the tournament and it will be wide open.
Murray has played well in 3 tournaments this season and stunk in 4, will be interesting to watch that bracket.
EDIT - Apparently Murray pulled out of an exhibition match in Paris yesterday due to pain in his wrist, but he is saying he is good to go for the French and it was just precautionary.

I've added the qualifiers and lucky losers into the draw.
Wozniak was the first name out of the hat for the qualifiers draw so she goes into Section 1. She could face Wozniacki in the 2nd round.

Roland Garros is underway! And good news right off the bat.
Rebecca Marino def. Kateryna Bondarenko(UKR) 6-3, 6-3
and even better news the seed she's supposed to meet next Peer of ISR lost!
-----
First upset on the men's side. [19] Marin Cilic is out.
Cilic falls down the rankings to 25. Raonic would pass him with a win in the 1st round.
Edit: Dodig out too... not a good day for Mango.

The three other Canadians all up tomorrow! (Monday)
Junri Namigata(JPN) vs. Aleksandra Wozniak(CAN) 4th on Court 6
Simone Bolelli(ITA) vs. Frank Dancevic(CAN) 3rd on Court 14
Michael Berrer(GER) vs. Milos Raonic(CAN)[26] 4th on Court 16
tough to estimate but Dancevic will be around 7am with Wozniak and Raonic on around 10am. TSN and TSN2 have coverage all day starting at 3am but they have ESPNs feed so don't expect to see too many of the Canadians in action.

Dancevic down in 4...
Wozniak won easily 6-1, 6-1. Should get (1) Wozniacki next!
Raonic has been moved to Court 10.. should start in an hour or so.

Raonic off to a slow start, was down a set and a break but has come roaring back to take the 2nd set. Since it's on the outer courts, I'm just following the scoreboard

Can't find a feed anywhere. They're playing on a non-tv court probably.
Raonic now 2 sets 1 down.....and still only 4 aces!! what is he doing serving under-hand?

Raonic out in 4 sets. Sounds like one of his worst performances to date. Could not get anything going against a nobody.

Aww, that's too bad. He was on such a roll earlier this year. Clay can be a tough surface to adjust to though.

Most of these euro-meatball dirt rats live for the French. So many of them are rubbish on everything other than the dirt. It really is a different game on that stuff. Much easier on the knees, but slow, slow and slow. Plus the sliding thing takes time to figure out. First time I played on clay I came close to a muscle (groin) tear.
Milos will pick it up for Wimbledon. Now that's a proper tournament.

UPSET ALERT: ISNER up 2 sets to 1 on NADAL. ISNER!
Nadal has never played a 5-set match at the French Open. The only time he was down 2-1 in a match he lost to Soderling in 2009. Isner serving out of his mind. Let's see how Nadal gets out of this. 2000 points on the line!
