Default Want Direct LRT Service to NE from the Saddledome after Flames games? Post Here!

Hi,

The other day on my way home from a Flames game I was thinking the train would be the ideal form of transportation if only I didn't have to switch trains downtown which adds an extra 10 to 20 minutes commute time. (Not to mention waiting outside when it gets cold) I emailed the city asking about it.

The short answer it that they will consider having direct trains to the NE from the Saddledome if there is enough demand for it. If you are interested in this please post in this thread as I am forwarding a link to this thread to the person I was talking to at the city.

Some details:

- They actually used to have direct LRT service to the NE from Stampede station (Saddledome) until the late 1990s. It was canceled due to lack of use.
- Ever wonder what the extra platform is for at Stampede station? It was built for people heading NE.
- Due to the track configuration the train would go from Stampede to City Hall station. From there it would head NE.
- If they re-implemented this it would be after the new City Hall station is rebuilt.
- They had direct trains to the NE from Stampede for a pancake breakfast on the first Sunday of the 2009 Stampede and it was well used.

Does the short turn screw up the NW/S line traffic?

I'd definitely use it on occasion.

Even though I'd probably never use it personally, I think that it would be a great idea to revisit this.

Convenience for those heading NE aside, it would probably help a fair amount with the congestion on the main platform (NW-S) which actually gets pretty scary sometimes.

What happens when the new arena is built in 3-5 years?

^ The SE LRT will have a subway station located to the most likely location of the new Arena. No clue how that will be for getting to the NW/W/NE lines though. The 4th street East underpass will make life easier getting to 7th ave on foot.
