Default Spot Power - Electricity provider

Anybody use these guys? Looks like they have kick-ass rates.

Checkout the detailed pricing analysis.

The question I have, "Is there any reason not to sign up with them?"

The obvious benefit is the lower price, but are there hidden "gotchas!" like higher administration fees or something?

I'd imagine it's because they only offer 1 or 2 year contracts, unlike Enmax with their 5 year contracts. Less risk for them so they can offer lower rates.

wait a second........that doesn't make much sense.......longer contracts are less risky as you're stuck with them.

They're risky because it's much easier to predict rates 1 year out than 5 years out. Which is why 5 year mortgage rates are always higher than 1 year rates. Hence why a 5 year electricity rate should be higher than a 1 year electricity rate.

Ofcourse they do, that's how you get a fixed rate, you sign a contract with them. They just have very favorable terms for breaking them (you can break it at any time with 30 day notice)
