				 Stampeders/CFL Offseason Thread

Thought I would start this off since I hadn't seen this posted but Ted Hellard is leaving as managing partner of the Stampeders and selling his shares.
Feels like it's time to move on and try something new.

Frankly I think he's been nothing short of brilliant. This franchise was a joke with the Feterik debacle. I remember Joe Sports always saying "well at least he can meet payroll".

Well it seems now that not only can the current group meet payroll, they aren't turning this franchise into a farce.

So thanks Ted, for bringing our great franchise back to the class of the CFL where it belongs.

Stamps have alot of key UFA's. I hope that they manage to at least re-sign Anderson. I know Browner has the size and speed but IMO Anderson is the more complete and consistent cornerback. I could see a team offering Browner a contract that is larger than his worth.

And I think its going to be the other way around. I think Browner stays and Anderson walks. I wonder if Huff is sick of Anderson's trash talking and attitude. Smith was close to signing a new deal and I believe I heard that Simpson was close as well.

I wonder how Montreal's cap situation is, as most of these guys should get sizable raises, except Duval. If I'm Montreal I look hard at finding someone to replace Duval
will depend on Calvillo and Cahoon if they retire, but it sounds like they could both be back - Calvillo could break more records if he comes back, and if he does Cahoon likely does also

Definitely some key decisions for the Stampeders on D, important defensive players, do they keep the guys with attitude? I agree with flickered and think they will keep Browner over Anderson, even though Anderson is better overall, although either will be pricy. glad smith and simpson sound like they are coming back

We'll see but I have a feeling that it's going to be Anderson as IMO he's possibly the best CB in the league. Browner was really awful at times this year. For every game where Fantuz was held without a catch there were 3 games where he was really, really, poor. To top it off he's one of the worst tacklers in the league.

I understand not wanting Browner and Anderson, those are obvious. But serious question, why not Lysack? I'm not arguing for him, but I've never heard anything about him other than watching him play.

You've probably all heard but Ken Miller stepped down as Rider Head coach yesterday. Let the speculation begin. Hall? Berry? Etcheverry?

Doug Berry will be the next HC in Rider land imo.

Stamps coaches are a hot commodity. Dickenson liked in Edm and BC. Jones in the running in Edm. Campbell aslo in the Edm job.
I don't want to lose Dickenson or Jones.

I think Dickenson is liked by the fans here in Saskatchewan, but I'd say its a long shot for him to come here.

I highly doubt Dickenson will be leaving Calgary. I have a tough time believing teams really think he's ready for a HC job as he still has lots to learn about running an offense let alone running a team. I think he has great potential but he's young and there's no need to rush into anything. I'm also not sure if Jones is HC material. He coaches a fairly good defense but it's also one the least disciplined defenses I've seen. Not sure if that would translate well coaching an entire team. I wouldn't be surprised to see both return next year with the Stampeders.

The thing is in BC they want him to come in as a O Cord. then replace Wally likely next year. In Edm Tillman is gonna get good players, no doubt about that so he could grow with those young good players.

In Calgary it is stil Huff's team when he first took over there were talks of him being a coach for a year than Cortez taking over. Huff didn't give it up and Cortez has now left along with some other coaches. I don't think Huff is leaving anytime (not that I have any problem with it) so that might make Dickenson look elsewhere.

As for as Jones goes, I don't think defensive coaches make good head coaches in the CFL. Hall and Etchevery disasters will make teams back away for some time.

Juwan Simpson has re-signed with the Stamps, and Brandon Smith is/will be done soon.
Anyone have thoughts on who they may want to sign from another team?
I'd love to try and get Paris Jackson, who ic a Canadian receiver, and a free agent from BC

Not surprise Juwan Simpson re-signed with the Stamps. Nik Lewis mentioned before that the reason for him re-signing with the Stamps was not about the money but it's because of how management treat everyone. I tend to agree because I knew Lewis could have signed for a bigger paycheque somewhere else but instead he stayed with the Stamps. I hope Tom Johnson, Browner, Anderson and Malik Jackson stay as well. As for signing a free agent from another team, I hope they sign a legitimate threat as a punt returner.

Although I would like to see a threat at punt return as well, have you ever thought that it was the way the return was coached/set up or even the players who are blocking?
You look at a guy like Titus Ryan who is as fast as most of the top return men in the league but he really could not get it done here in Calgary. 1 year later he wins the return job for the Dallas Cowboys (he then got hurt in pre season then cut I believe)
