Default New Calgary Radio Station Kool101.5

Engery 101.5 just switched formats today at 1:01pm. They are now advertising as Kool 101.5 hits from today & back in the day. It's commercial free until thursday.

They played "Get his party started, pump up the jam, together again, sweet dreams, What is Love, Poker Face, I saw the sign (ace of base), Like a prayer, California Girls, Family Affair, Rich Girl...

I don't listen to radio very often, but 101.5 is #1 on my radio presets. It looks like there is not going to be a huge shift in the type of music, but hopefully less aughties hip-hop.

I don't always listen to the radio, but when I do, I listen to 101.5

They had to make a change as they were getting killed by AMP and Virgin, not that it is a massive switch from the current format but we'll see what happens.

I like the old school music so it may be worth a listen once in a while.

Is AMP still dominating the pop/top40 crowd since Vibe changed to Virgin or did it switch around again?

What this city needs is the original Fuel 90.3 to come back, when they played actual modern alt rock and before they started trying to become a 90s version of Cjay.

This. Radio stations just need to stay with what makes them popular. I know they want to please listeners but dont let requests dominate your entire profile... keep doing what got you going in the first place, otherwise you lose the poeple who made the initial switch and you'll never steal some people away from CJAY.

Not really a fan of the name...doesn't draw me in. Instantly think of Kool and the Gang and go back to fan960

Sounds like way too broad a range to appeal to very many people. Pretty much any time a station tries to program to appeal to everyone, they end up appealing to no one.

Fuel was never popular, which is why they kept tweaking it trying to build an audience.

Katy Perry. It's been mostly dance/club music that was popular at some point.

None of the garbage FM stations have a chance with me, but I will always have time for Fan 960/Qr 77.

I don't think Amp was ever dominating. Didn't they get smoked by Vibe/Virgin in the last book? Sure the numbers are better than Fuel's but they aren't a heavy hitter.

There are two absolute guaranteed posts every time someone makes a radio thread on this forum.

1. "What this city needs is fuel 90.3 back"
2. "People still listen to FM radio?"

Responses:

1. Shutup. No one listened to that station, which is why it was pulled. Quit whining about it and go listen to Big Shiny Tunes 11.

2. You're probably making this post because you think you're funny. Fact is, no one is laughing. Probably the most overplayed post in CP history next to "hookers and blow"

So in summary, if your post is going to include either of the above subjects, do everyone a favour and click the back button.

kthx.

On the FM radio front - FM stations and the RIAA are planning to jointly go to the US congress to make it mandatory that all smart phones, etc, are capable of playing FM radio. It certainly is not a dying medium, no matter what the pretentious Sirius-listening d-bags think.
