I'm looking for a new home in the SE and have been thinking about Cranston. Does anybody know anything about this community? Is it kid friendly, etc. Thanks for your help.

All I know is that you will be living next to a bunch of hospital lottery winners from the past years in Cranston.

Seriously. This is just a bump, but this is a big decision and I would like to hear if anybody has had either good or bad experiences. Thanks again.

Aren't they area code 404? Is it still Mountain Standard Time there?
I'm sure it's nice but the distance jokes are valid. You may also want to look into the school situation as I seriously doubt it has one, being so new.

Is it really that far to the core. They have an express bus which would probably only take about 30 minutes. Do they have any pubs, strip malls, etc.

Since it's one of the most southernly suburbs of Calgary, I don't believe it's possible to be any FARTHER from the core. As a former express rider, you had better make that last 5:14 express bus or it's a long C-Train / bus ride home.
I'd recommend you do a few trial commutes there to test things out. Drive there early one morning and take the bus to work. 30 mins is far too optimistic, I think it takes me 30 minutes in free flowing traffic! A hour by express bus during the morning commute would be my guess.

Yeah, that is a lot of wasted time commuting. Thanks for the advice, I will have to take that under consideration. Any other CPer's out there live in Cranston or know somebody that does? Any stories? Is there anything there besides houses?

Living in the deep south stinks... I can't wait to move from Somerset. Hopefully back to Coach Hill, or Killarney. There are alot of facilities out here but good god. May aswell live in Okotoks.

exactly, if you're considering Cranston you might as well look at Okotoks, cheaper property taxes...

I have quite a few friends who live in Cranston. Nice area, good community but all of the shopping, pubs, etc.... are located closer to McKenzie Towne. Everyone from Cranston, Copperfield, Lake McKenzie all come to that area on Deerfoot and 130th or right in McKenzie Towne. Not too far from Cranston.
I live in McKenzie Towne myself and love it down in the south. I work up past the Airport and it takes me about 25 minutes to get to work. Traffic is much better than it used to be.
If you are looking for a house I am going to be selling mine soon. Let me know if you are interested. I am moving to a different area of McKenzie Towne.

I was considering Makenzie Town as well. How big is your house? I'm looking for something between 2100 and 2400. Thanks for the comments because I definately need a pub close by.

McKenzie Towne has a nice pub called the Kilt & Caber. The girls that waitress there wear tartan skirts, and the skirts are a nice length.

Sorry my house is only 1500 square feet. The new one is 2100. I highly reccomend McKenzie Towne, like someone else said The Kilt and Caber is a good pub with some nice eye candy. Pretty much anything you need is within a 5 minute drive.

Hi there,
If you have any pics could you email them to me. As well, let me know the approximate price. We'll be looking for a house in M-Town in the next few months in just that size. You can email me at scostant@ucalgary.ca

Dunno if you are still taking opinions or not.
My wife and I live in Cranston and we love it. We've lived here now for close to 3 years.
I drive downtown everyday and it takes me about 35 minutes. Although, I've now decided to switch to the Cranston express bus which takes you directly downtown from Cranston.
Fish Creek is super close, good pathways, close (but not too close) to major shopping at 130th ave and I like how it's isolated from other communities. Plus, the new hospital in Ceton will be nice and close as well.

Yes, I went and looked at the community on the weekend. It is very nice. It looks like a pretty high end community. I didn't see any gas stations, pubs, coffee shops, etc. Are there any? Any plans to build them? How log is the comute on the express bus? Thanks

I live in Chaparral and that's just as far south. Took me about 50 mins to get to the core when I took the bus+train. And Cranston is even further east.
They are building schools here in Chaparral this year and next, they will probably serve Cranston for a few years.

I'm in Chapparal as well and honestly I get to the core in thirty minutes (driving) everyday. I'm out the door by 6:45 and I'm in my office no later than 7:15/7:20. Great part of the city to live and raise a family.
