Travel to the Dominican Republic

So, the wife and I (and two elementary school aged kids) are thinking of a trip to Punta Cana for a couple weeks in early December to lay in the sun and do nothing particularly useful.

Anyone been? Anything to look out for or recommendations on restorts?

So far, the leading candidate for the resort seems to be the Gran Bahia Principe. Decent reviews on Trip Advisor for whatever that's worth.

Melia was meh...really big to have to walk around. They did have a high ropes course for the kids though.

Don't do any snorkel or diving excursions becausse the reefs there are all dead because they trash the crap out of them. It's depressing.
