Default Mind boggling Security Costs

1 Billion spent on security for the Olimpics and now another Billion for the G8 summit.

Are the RCMP bleeding us taxpayers? 143 million per day seems a bit steep.

Quote:
Christine Csversko said the costs are based on a "medium-level threat assessment," and she cautioned that the final bill will not be known until the summits are over.
The costs won't be going down...

They have to spend that much on RCMP so the officers can teach everyone proper useage of 4-way stops.

I don't think they got paid enough, apparently someone stole the "y" out of the Olympics and left an "i".

You're just figuring that out now? Ever since 9/11 security costs in North America in general have been mind-boggling.

The Olympics this year is when I started to think about it.

How is it possible to spend 140 million a day securing a handful of people ?

It's time for video conferencing. G8 Summit, whoopee friggin waste of money.

No kidding.

They could easily save millions by doing this 'summit' over the TV.

I remember talking to an RCMP guy from the Olympics.

All those guys were getting overtime pay, meals and expenses and a daily allowance.

That adds up.

Putting it into a bit more perspective, it costs roughly $3-5,000 for the Saddledome to staff police alone for one Flames game, depending on the opponent. That doesn't include regular security.

Now, bearing in mind that Canucks were always the most security intense games, (fact, not conjecture,) and you're having these games IN Vancouver, I'd say that's a heck of a deal.

I see only one solution. Contract the Canucks and hold a dispersal draft.
