Dragon Age: Origins (WARNING: SPOILERS)
I know we were talking about this in another thread earlier but I thought since it released today and we are going to be playing it.. a new thread was needed.
I just picked up my copy today at lunch, going straight home to play it after work. Quite excited, I am thinking I will be a Human Noble for the first story line. I want to play a rogue Assassin/Duelist.
Anyone else pick it up or planning too?
Edit: Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone reading this thread there are story line spoilers here.. so be careful if you don't like things ruined.

Which one did you get? PC, 360, PS3?

I bought the PC version. I do not own a PS3 or 360, so the choice was easy. But in warning to everyone here, gamespot among other game reviewers have already said the PC version > Console version for smoothness, graphics and camera angle. (you can't zoom out to tactical view in the console version, which makes it hard on some spots to control all of your characters at the same time)
This is the first single player game I have bought since.... Ogre Battle 64 back in 2001? Or whenever it came out. I figured it was a good time to get back into the genre with all of the rave reviews the game has gotten.

Yeah seems like it should be a great game.
Was wondering if you preordered it at EB Games and got the promotions for it?

Yeah, where did you grab it?
Bestbuy.ca doesn't show any available copies. I was going to check Future Shop and EB Games after work.

Apparently the PS3 version hasn't arrived yet. EB says they have PC and 360, but no idea when the PS3 is coming.

I picked mine up at Future Shop here in Saskatoon.
I know that EB games has copies of the PC version, as fanin80 already said. I couldn't track down the CE without a pre order and by the time I wanted to pre order they were already sold out so.. missed that boat.
Retailed for about $60 taxes in for the normal edition, PC. I thought that was a fairly decent deal.. been a while since I bought a game not sure if that is the going rate or not.
DLC (Downloadable Content) is a big part of this game. There are bonuses for buying the CE (in game items) and they are going to be adding quests and items as the game progresses. To get all of this you have to register your copy at EA games.
So to anyone thinking of pirating *cough* first of all you are a bad person, Bioware is Canadian! Second of all you will miss out on all of the DLC including hidden characters and side quests on top of a lot of items.
I never posted this because it is CPuck and I hate the Fata nazi's, but..

This is a free flash version streamed online of Dragon Age Origins. It has an old school Might and Magic combat system, which is different than Origins, but many of the same aspects are in Journey's as well. These include character advancement, stats, items etc.. you also can get bonus DLC for beating the flash version if you register an EA account... which you will need anyway to get any future DLC.
Just in case anyone hadn't posted this before or heard of it. I am not a huge item whore I just played it for fun, but if you like that stuff beat it with all three classes for extra items.

There's a review on Gametrailers. They mostly look at the PC version but also compare it to the consoles.

Anyways, for those console people you may want to wait till later this evening or tomorrow to read more impressions about the PS3 and XBox 360 versions. From what I've been reading the PS3 version is the way to go because it looks sharper (better textures because of the bigger media size I'm sure) but it has a poor framerate (15-24 FPS). On the other hand the 360 version looks worse but has a more consistent framerate (~30 FPS).

OB 64 was an epic game, for some reason it is still one of my favorite rpg's of all time.

Don't trust the Best Buy website. I saw it said that there were no copies available but since I drive by on the way home from work I decided to check anyways. 9 Copies on the shelf.
I told my buddy who lives near Westhills, so he went over to that BB and there were lots there, too.
Edit:Installing now.....

If anyone is looking for the PS3 version, I just bought one copy from Eb Games Market Mall. They have plenty left as of now.

I phoned every EB asking for a collectors edition for the 360 and none of them had any, only enough for pre-orders. Futureshop only got the regular edition in, but had the collectors for the PS3.
I had to order it off of EA's website so hopefully I get it next week although I won't be playing it then with MW2 out.
FYI I needed the collectors edition because it comes with exclusive armor for Mass Effect 2, and ME2 is going to be epic.

Note for those who can't find it in stores (or don't want to go and look), the game is available on Steam.
This will be the third Steam purchase I've made, and outside of not having a manual I've had no issues.

Both editions come with that. The collector's has 3 extra in-game items, but both editions have the Blood Armor.
Quote:
Commissioned by an infamous Nevarran dragon hunter, this armor was crafted in a time when dragons had almost been hunted to extinction. Infused with their blood, the armor gained notoriety after the hunter died at the hands of men rather than the dragons it was designed to protect him from.
Purchase a new copy of Dragon Age: Origins (regular or Collector's Edition) and receive a code to download Blood Dragon Armor, a full set of armor that grants exceptional protection in combat.
Activate the code in Dragon Age: Origins and the Blood Dragon Armor will also unlock for use in BioWare's upcoming science fiction epic, Mass Effect 2. Take your armor to the edge of the galaxy!

For those with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions if you get a chance could you please post your impressions of overall performance (i.e. FPS/smoothness, graphics quality). I know the PC will be better but I have an iMac so gaming really isn't an option (unless it's an older game). I've read lots about the XBox version but very little actual impressions of the PS3 version. Thanks!

Frame rate is fine on the PS3 for me. Why don't you just install Windows (via Boot Camp) on your iMac and run the PC version?
