I got into a car accident in late January when some idiot ran a red light. My car is now written off. I am in the market for a new car. I am not sure if I want to get a 2005, but I know the oldest I want is around 2000. I dont' even know if I want to buy privately or from a dealer.
I am now thinking of getting a Toyota Celica. Does anyone on this forum own one or knows lots about it? I was wondering if they are worth the price. I think they are fairly nice cars.
Your opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated

Personally, I don't like them. They are gutless, even the GTS model. But there are a lot of mods you can do to them, if that's what you're into.

I was at a Toyota dealership looking at their Corolla's, and the salesman was telling a buddy and I how he drove a Celica as a demo model. He didn't like it all that much...one reason he gave was that it was too low to the ground. Sounds like a dumb reason, but that's what he said.
If you like the Toyota's though, I suggest looking into a Corolla. They are known for insane longevity. The new XRS model is a sporty car with pretty good gas mileage at a price that isn't too steep.

My dad just bought a 2004 Corolla. I can't get the same car as him!!!
My buddy works at a Toyota dealership and he said he can get me a deal. Is there any other types of (sports) cars that Toyota makes that you guys recommend?
I would also like more comments on the Celica as well
Thanks in advance guys!!!

Watch out for the GT-S model if you go used and the previous owner. I seem to recall reading that they could develop an engine issue from constant driving at high revs.

I test drove one a couple of years ago, and I really didn't like the steering. It felt mushy to me.
I've sadly graduated from speedy sports cars to more conservative cars due to my business requirements. Its just not cool when you have to cram three clients into a tight little sports car.

Yeah.. i recommend the 98 Supra TT.
Oh by the way. If any one is interested in getting a car from Japan (right hand drive). I am importing them. Cars must be 15 years or older. This is mainly for the huge JDM fans out there. I am getting CRX's, Silvia's (240sx), Fairlady's (300zx), NSX, Skyline, MR2's, Porsches (left hand drive). Most cars are about 60,000 km's.
Maybe you want one of those instead?? Let me know.

As Oiler Fan says, the Corolla XRS is a sweet car - nothing like your Dad's. It's brand new and is pretty sharp looking.
It has the same engine and transmission as the Celica GT-S with 40 more HP than your average Corolla (170 vs 130).
Go check it out, you may be surprised.

What kind of car are you in the market for? I mean do you want a sports car? Sedan?
Honestly I've always been a fan of Honda Civic Sedans they are a great all purpose vehicle, they have some guts in them (not much), but they are a really nice ride and can be had at the right price.
Personally I drive a 98 Integra and I'm quite happy with it.
As far as sportscars? See if you can get a deal on an old Supra if you wanna go that way.

the corolla and the celica are the same car, more or less.
not a sports car, the celica, but a zippy little econobox if that's what you're into.
if clipping apexes and powering out of corner exits at full throttle is your thing, stay away.

Don't tell me you're part of the whole JNS Imports thing?
As for the Celica, it's not a true sports, car but out of what you can get in Canada, probably one of the better choices. Your other options are 350Z and RX-8. I'd go for the RX-8 personally.
The safest choice however, it probably an RSX. If you have the cash, splurge on a Impreza WRX/STi if you really care about performance.
However, with Toyota, the Celica is the only current "sporty" model they have in Canada. You could get an older model Lexus.

If you are willing to spend $34,000 on a Celica GT-S, I would suggest going for the Acura RSX Type S. This car kicks major ass on the Celica. Hands down a much better and slightly cheaper car.

One-up him by getting an '05 XRS...but I see your point.
I just don't like small, two-door sports cars. They just don't seem practical to me.

Meh, styling that looks like a Corolla, a 2.5L 5 cylinder that only puts out 150hp....premium pricing. I think VW really missed the boat on styling for this and stands to lose most of the "cool" factor it built up with the last generation of Jetta/Beetle/Golf.

The new Jetta looks like a morphed corolla. Ugly.

I agree the new Jetta (at least in pictures) is pretty uninspiring.
Though I've seen cars that look bland on paper but look very nice in reality (and the other way as well).

I've had a buddy who's had two Celica's, and he's had massive engine problems with both.....including one that caught on fire in the middle the Rockies. For some reason they have a lot more problems than other Toyotas, which is surprising considering the rock-solid quality of the brand.
I test drove one too as well, and meh, its extremely underpowered. You have to have the engine running at a really high rev to get any sort of power coming out of the car, and that can't be very good long-term.
I'd suggest getting a Subaru WRX if you want a great sporty car. It has the build-quality of a Toyota, with power and speed of a little Porsche.

The Celica is too low torque. I think the GT-S has like 130 lb/tq...Seriously, I'd fall asleep waiting for it to kick in at like 6000rpm or something stupid like that. Toyota Matrix has the same engine, so forget it.
It depends on how much you want to spend, and what kind of car you want.
Neeper, where do you work? I might be interested in shipping a Silvia over....or...dare I dream...a R32.
