Toronto Sun quotes Tommy Lee ...
Quote:
The Motley Crue drummer insists he'll be watching when Tyler makes his debut as Simon Cowell's replacement on the show later this year and he's sure he'll be a big hit.
He tells EW.com, "I know him really well, and he'll -ing kill it. Look, you're judging karaoke, you don't need to be a really super experienced judge for that. But it's nice to have an actual musician in there.
|
CalPuck won't allow the word but apparently the Toronto Sun does.
Check it out but be quick because I think it may change.

Is it okay because it's a quote?
I wonder if it made their print edition.
Is this a regular thing?

Obviously it is if you have nothing better to do than bash a thread.

If I'm reading you right, and I like to think I am, the news you're trying to pull out of this Toronto Sun story is that rockstars do, in fact, swear.
Astounding.

Tommy Lee actually gave that interview in German. The Toronto Sun quoted that translation word for word from another blog without attribution!

when you mentioned Tommy Lee it reminded me of the show Rockstar.

Cursing in quotes isn't anything new in the Sun that I'm aware of.

This isn't the United States. Us Canadians can handle a few curse words every now and then.

One would have to have pretty poor reading comprehesion skills to think that was the point he was making.

Go figure, what a stupid thing to say "you're judging karaoke"..... Carrie Underwood for example has three times the talent of the washed up Tommy Lee.

I don't know what isn't karaoke about American Idol. Some person goes up and sings a song they didn't write without performing any music. I've seen it several times at karaoke bars. The only difference with Idol is that it's a popularity contest with better looking people.

It's reassuring to know we have higher standards than the Toronto Sun.

Let's see the hot tramp play drums and then we can decide on talent.
Once Carrie Underwood sells more albums then the Crue, then we'll talk.

Give it a few more years and it won't even be close. How many awards did the Crue win.....

awards dont mean nothing to me in my opinion of talented artists.
Carrie has a wonderful voice, and is smoking hot. She also sings a very 'public' friendly type of music which is easier to market - therefore will get more 'votes' in the popularity contest that the music award scene is.
Tommy is a drug abusing, wife beating, alcoholic musician who sings (and plays in) a typically not as popular music genre.
If you base talent on the awards they are getting, have fun listening to your Michael Bolton.

Canucked.
As a musician, I feel that yes, American Idol absolutely is karaoke. I can't see how anyone could say it isn't. That said, it being karaoke doesn't preclude it from having very talented singers participate who could be very popular once they meet some real musicians who can prop them up.

How is it not karaoke? I can't think of an argument otherwise.
