Congrats to me!
Just looking for a pat on the back because I'm pretty frickin' proud of myself!
I am now a certified lifeguard and swim instructor! (although I now need to find a job in the feild... but that will be the next chapter)
I was a competitive swimmer when I was in my teens and for lots of different reasons, didn't pursue a career in Aquatics. So 20 years later I realized that I need to do what I enjoy!
Sorry about such a self-serving post, but I'm sooooo stoked right now and can't help but tell everyone! YAY ME!
(PS: no, I'm not giving free mouth-to-mouth lessons.)

So long as you're not on the Kevin Smith diet.
Although if you were his size you probably don't have to put in much effort floating and you'd be like a barge that could take several children on you back to the side of the pool. Of course it might be tough to get to the bottom of the pool to retrieve them.

Not if what you'll pay me is what everyone else on CP pays their babysitters!
Your kids aren't bad... were you able to get all the stuff off the roof that they threw up there last summer?

I was a lifeguard/swim instructor when I was a teenager. It was the most awesome job on the planet. Got to wear a cool uniform, tons of chicks in swim suits, sit on your butt in a chair for the most part, it was kick butt. Being an instructor was cool too but I HATED getting the really small kids class. Teaching the mid color lvl (they still doing that btw? blue, red, grey, white, etc...?) and some Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross was much more up my alley.
After a few yeards, the l/g side got REALLY boring, standing on your feet all day can be tough when you didn't get the big chair and every now and again you would actually have to dive in to save some hack who wondered out to deep before the waves started (worked at a wave pool).
Great job though, really enjoyed the heck out of it. Congrats, hope it provides you with as much enjoyment and memories that it did for me.
