Medals count. How should the standings go?
So should it be by total medals, or by who has the most number of Gold Medals? (or whichever makes the US win) hehe.
I think it should be by whoever has the most Gold medals.

Yeah, Golds come first for sure. It's crazy to think that China got 51 gold medals in Beijing...that is SOO many!

I would go by total medals. If it goes by Gold the Swiss are leading the olympics with three gold and three total medals. Makes no sense to me saying that they are having a better games than the americans who have 8 medals.

How about:
Gold = 3 points
Silver = 2 points
Bronze = 1 point

Winner!
So the standings would look like this instead.
US 14 points
Germany 13 points
Switzerland 9 points
France 9 points
South Korea 8 points
Canada 8 points.

How about: Who really cares how somebody ranks the medal standings? Does the country with more gold medals get a bigger cookie?

I've always felt a point system would work best, but I am sure some wouldn't like the complications it would create.
The flaw in the total medal table is 15 Bronze > 14 Gold.
The flaw in the gold medal table is 1 Gold > 50 Bronze.

Quick, who has lost in the Stanley Cup finals the most times in the last 10 years?
No one cares about second place in most sports, so why give in to the Olympics attempt to hype almost winning?

Gold medal = Olympic Champion.
So in Beijing, China had 15 more gold medals than the US, but the US had 10 more medals in total. I totally give the win the China.

No, random people who didn't win anything get bragging rights...over other random people who didn't win anything either

Does it matter?
1-0-0 is better than 0-15-20 in some people's eyes, and vice versa in others. It's just a way to sort a table, nothing more.

You could award points beyond the top 3:
Gold = 30
Silver = 20
Bronze =10
4th = 5
5th = 4
6th = 3
7th = 2
8th = 1

Gold = gets a gold coloured medal
Silver = gets a Silver coloured medal
Bronze = gets a Bronze coloured medal
and leave it as that, it's about the Olympics and the Olympic moments and leave it with that, if you tally medal counts then tally them against previous efforts from your country

I'd say Gold goes first.
Think about it from our perspective.
If we only got 2 gold medals this Olympics instead of 6 Silver, and 6 Bronze, which is really more important to us as Canadians?
I'd say the Gold.

Seems like the logical way to do standings.

Anyone else think it is crazy that an individual medal counts the same as a team medal?
There is no way a skater in a 35 second event should have their medal count the same as a 20 person hockey team playing six 60 minute games to win a medal.
How should they account for that?
