Lowe's to buy Rona
Pretty indifferent on this one. Hopefully they don't close the smaller (former Totem) stores.
Lowe's to buy Canadian rival Rona for $3.2B

U.S. home improvement chain Lowe's is buying Canadian rival Rona in a friendly takeover valued at $3.2 billion Cdn.
The boards of both companies unanimously approved the transaction, they said in a news release early Wednesday.

And then there were 2....
Ya, hope the one on Edmonton Trail stays open. Otherwise my quick runs to the hardware store turn into epic time wasters....

They tried to buy them for less back in 2012... Rona closed a bunch of stores in the meantime and ends up getting a much higher price.

Meh, I've been to Lowes once... they opened a new one and I needed a door. All the staff stood around talking to each other ignoring the customers.
I left, went to Home depot and never went back.

So the Rona staff should fit right in.

That's been my experience too. The decimation of retail choice continues.....

I have found some of my best deals at Lowes, but ya, the service has sucked.

It's about the same price considering the currency.

It's amazing how the service a Home Depot snapped into shape the second Lowe's opened. I remember walking into an HD thinking I was being followed like a potential shop lifter...."What do you mean 'Can you help me find something?' I can pay for these screws dude."

Ive never had that experience at HD. Cannot stand the place. I suppose we each have our preferences. I am sadden to hear of Rona being bought out. I have been pretty loyal to them
Not sure what I will do now - If Timbertown would get their S together and start carrying everything maybe I'd be happier.

I can't say I've ever had good service at any of them (Lowe's, Rona, or Home Depot). It always seems like a hunt just to find anyone.

I never saw a real tangible difference between the 3. The same low-quality Chinese crap and non-existent service at all of them (the odd older guy who seems to know what he's doing is always swamped with people).

Hopefully they close the Rona in Westhills. That place is brutal.
For those in that part of town, I believe a Lowe's is going into the old Target.

You're hired as the new company purchaser, but I can't pay you anything. However you get to buy all the stuff you need.

Just wanted to also give a shout out to Cedar Shop- staffed by our very own Cedar Meter. http://cedarshop.com/
I got all of my PT wood from him for the fence, and will be getting the deck as well. Pricing was competitive with the big 3, service was a lot better. Same with the quality of the wood. I think I may have had 2 or 3 bad fence boards out of 400.
So there are other options out there.

Last week I purchased my first item at Lowes online and then picked it up at the store. This has made my shopping experience at Lowes infinitely better. Strongly recommend
