Default The inspirational/feel good story thread...

With all the crappy stuff going on in the world and the discussion of such, I thought it appropo to start a thread with stories/videos about good news and inspirational stories.

I have posted this on the other sports forum, but i know many dont pay attention there, so I will start it with this one.

7 minute long video, but i implore everyone to watch it in its entirety. Just a remarkable story.

I've always thought it would be a good idea to have a newspaper that only reported the good news in the world. It's not like good news is really any less news than bad news is, and it would be nice to be able to pick up a paper and read stories about all the good things that have happened around the world in the previous day/week. Someday I will have to start that paper, and then I will make myself rich and others happy.

For human beings, good news, generally, isn't as interesting as bad news.

Sorry, that's who we are.

As such, there is a purely economic reason you do not see an economically successful news source that is only good news . . . . it's because we will not pay for it.

Nevertheless, it would be fair to say that most news sources DO have a combination of both bad news and good, uplifting news.

"All The News That's Fit To Print" is a logo on some newspaper somewhere.

My contribution will be a small, very local matter, the photo below of Keeper, named by people who eventually didn't want her, who developed cancer in her 10th year of life (2008) and, three operations later and tattered by her close shave, was a weakened survivor, cancer-free and sunnily optimistic and happy to be anywhere.

A year later (a few weekends ago), Keeper walks up Ptarmigan Cirque in K-Country . . . . she'll never be as strong a climber as she once was but she's still in the game and that's what counts the most.

A huge Blue Jackets fan with terminal cancer gets signed to a real one-day NHL contract. Chimera and Malholtra befriend him and agree to be pal bearers at his funeral.

Nice signature for someone starting an 'Inspirational Feel good' thread. Maybe you should have started a 'rub the salt in the wounds' thread instead.

Yes, that's what most people say to the idea. Still, I would read a paper that had all good news. There must be some other people out there like me.

If you have adblock for Firefox you can just put a filter on the image. It is what I did.

This is kinda small compared to some of the others. But I thought it a good story.

One evening last week my mother was driving along and suddenly she could hear her muffler dragging. She called my brother to come rescue but he was going to be a while. In the meantime a black van pulls over in front of her and a big guy pops out. There wasn't much traffic and my mother was scared of this rather large stranger approaching. The stranger then jumps into the ditch, pulls out a piece of wire and McGyvers the muffler back into place. My mother offered him money for his services but he refused, said "No need to thank me.... just doing my good deed for the day. Have a good night." and left without even giving his name.

So the Flames drafted a kid who beat cancer (Leland Irving) and one that saved his dad's life (Keith Aulie), along with the sons of former NHLers.

Grow up.

The ability of ones favorite sports team to be successful, or not in your case, has NO bearing on the reality of life.

And as a matter of record...the Riders choking everything away actually WAS a good story AND made me feel good. So what the frick is your point?

Watch the very first frickin video in this thread for verification.

good grief.

One man's good news is another man's bad news. For instance, if I was a journalist working for your paper, I'd write a story about how great it was to see Sask get their hearts ripped out yesterday. Flip and Speede5 would not have purchased this "good news" paper.

Some good news from Los Angeles . . . . violent crime is undergoing an unprecedented drop. Killings are a fraction of what they were in the 1980's and 1990's and are now at levels not seen since the 1960's, all this in spite of a recession.
