Default November Player of the Month Nominations (Games 36-66)

Please post your nominations in the following categories:

Player of the Month
Defenceman of the Month
Rookie of the Month
Goalie of the Month
Unsung Hero
Crappy Team/Player

This will be from games 36-66. This is alittle more than a month of games but I think it will be easier to track. Winners to be picked on Friday?

The Habs would like to nominate the following players:

Player - Rick Nash

15GP 11g 16a 27pts +8

Nash continues to lead the Habs and over the month of November earned 4 1st stars, 1 2nd star and 2 3rd stars. He is currently leading the league in goals and is 2nd in points.

Defenseman - Brent Burns

15GP 3g 9a 12pts +17

Brent Burns quietly put up a lot of points, but more impressive he was a staggering +17 over this 15 game stretch. He is now a +32 on the season and second only to fellow teammate Mikko Koivu for the overall lead in Plus/Minus.

Goalie - Ryan Miller

13GP 11W 2L
SV% 0.896
GAA 2.15

Ryan Miller racked up the wins over this stretch of games and is currently has a 9 game winning streak going for him. His SV% is ranked 4th in the league, his GAA 3rd best in the league, and 2nd in league wins. He is playing very good hockey right now and is one of the reason the Habs are doing so well. He also had a 2nd and 3rd star over the stretch.

Penguins Nominees

Player:

Sidney Crosby
11G 17A 28PTS +8

Sid rebounded from a slow start on the season to have a great month. He had 7 multi-point games including two 3 point games and one 4 point game.

Mike Cammalleri
14G 8A 22PTS +8

Cammy exploded for a team high 14 goals after struggling to start the season. Since being paired on a line with Crosby he has scored in 10 out of 13 games.

Defenseman:

Chris Pronger
2G 15A 17PTS +8

Pronger has been a rock in both ends. He has been a physical presence as well as a major offensive contributor. He not only puts up points but impressive stats in the blocked shots and hots department.

Rookie:

Bobby Ryan

7G 4A 11PTS

Ryan has stepped up and has provided the Pens with some much needed secondary scoring. Ryan has put up solid numbers despite spending the majority of his time on the 3rd line.

Carey Price

5-1-2 2.76gaa.890 save %

Price started the month with a 3 game winless streak, however he earned a point in 2/3 of those games. Price then caught fire and finished the month on a 5 game winning streak allowing 2 goals or less in 4 of those 5 wins.

Unsung Hero

Brooks Laich
6G 10A 16TS +3

Before Laichs arrival the 3rd line was a spot of concern for the Pens. Since he has arrived it has turned from a weakness to a strength. Laich has played exclusively on the 3rd line and has matched up against some of the leagues best. Not only has he shut them down he has turned in some great offensive performances as well including a hattruick against the Ducks.

Flyers

Player: Thomas Vanek: 9 G, 9 A, 18 P, +13
The offensive leader for the Flyers both offensively and defensively.

Defenseman: Ryan Whitney: 4 G, 15 A, 19 P, Even
Whitney really turned it on last month, scoring at better than point per game pace.

Goalie: Henrik Lundqvist: 11 W, 4 L, 1 Shutout, .890 Sv %, 2.28 GAA
Lundqvist came in at the start of the month and played much better than Luongo did for the Flyers, helping us get back into a decent playoff seed.

Unsung: Thomas Fleishmann: 7 G, 7 A, 14 P, +5
The under-rated forward won the weekly award couple of time I believe and provided big scoring help from the 3rd line, he got to play couple of games on the top line to help the big boys get going and he did exactly that. Getting his points from the 3rd line and kicking starting the top forwards.

Fleischman is a 66 OVR, being an Unsung Hero is a bit debatable. I guess there's no OVR limit to the award, I've always just assumed it was for the random 62OVR guy who pots a hattrick or something.

Hes been a third liner getting around 13 mins a game so he would be unsung.
Btw Laich is 66 overall, its the roles they're playing.

Islanders nominate:

Unsung Hero

Eric Belanger RW 19GP 10G 6A 16PTS +5

On a team where everyone else was a minus rating for the month Belanger pulled off a +5 while scoring 10 Goals without any powerplay time. Considering he only scored 3 Goals last month Nov/Dec was quite productive. He scored 2 of the Islanders 5 game winners including an OT winner. Of special note during the month Belanger had a stretch of 6 games where he tallied 6 Goals and 2 Assists with a +2 rating and 4 shots blocked.

I didn't realize that Laich was also a 66 OVR...I guess it's a bit of a grey area when it comes to the Underrated player, is it Underrated as in the role they play or underrated as in the OVR rating? It might be a good idea to have a limit as to the OVR we can use, because honestly a 66 OVR guy is pretty highly rated and I've always thought this award was more meant for teams struggling that don't have as high rated of guys. This at least gives them a chance to win an award because its unlikely a poor team's top player will outperform a Rick Nash or Sidney Crosby for example.

Just my thoughts anyways.
