Gauging interest in another music draft...
I've been kicking around some of these ideas for a couple of years. Finally decided to see if anyone else would be interested in such an exercise because, well, I'm bored.
I'm just going to throw out a mish mash of ideas and get some feedback and suggestions and we'll go from there..
So...it would be a song draft. Ideally, I would like to see a combination of some of these ideas and categories:
1. Participants vote on a set number of prolific artists to have as categories. For example The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin end up being 3 of the categories (I'd actually like to see 10 or more). Each participant drafts a favorite from their catalog.
2. Songs for specific genres...not sure how detailed we could get with the categories...rock, country, rap, r & b, metal etc. This part could really use some ideas to further it.
3. Live performance, lyrics only (favorite song lyrically), instrumental (?), wildcards, covers etc are all additional category possibilities.
I feel like I had more ideas but I'm drawing a blank. If I think of them I will edit the post.
So...who's interested and who has some spiffy ideas to throw in the pot? Feel free to share in this thread or PM me!

The genre thing would be tough. There are many songs that can fit multiple genres. There are some who would argue against Coldplay being in the rock genre and others who would say that Korn is metal... etc etc.
I'm definitely interested though. Hopefully we can figure out a way to keep things moving forward though. The threshold where people lose interest always makes it rough for everyone else.

Not a bad idea. Which reminds me, I have to add some pics to the other draft thread....
If genres are an issue, whomever is running the draft could always have a final say in where bands fit.
@FanIn80 - Korn isn't metal, and Coldplay certainly isn't rock
Covers, live, are both good categories. You could also do groups of years or decades. Best song from canadain, american, european artists, best male, female song....

Who think's Korn is metal?
ROFL
The best bumper sticker I have ever seen was "Korn is not Metal". :-D
And The Rolling Stones suck, hard.

I was thinking a song/single thread would be good, with similar categories as other drafts (genre and years).
Also, pick our favorite songs from famous bands.

I'm intrigued by the fave songs from famous bands thing. Which bands would be included though? Maybe the top 5 sellers?
Edit: That would be tough. It's Beatles, Elvis, MJ, ABBA and Queen. While I could easily pick faves from all 5 of those, I don't think it would be a common thing.

Each participant can nominate 2-3 bands, and the rest can vote on 1-2 to use in the draft?
Ex. I might say, Frank Zappa, Queen and XTC.

Exactly what I was thinking. As long as we have committed folks, I wouldn't be opposed to having quite a few of this type of category. We could make it a flex thing too where (say there are 20 bands as categories) each person drafts from 15 or something like that.
Glad to see the responses today....I thought this one was going nowhere!

Confession: I'm just looking for a reason to break out some Gruntruck.
Anyone up for putting something together at this point or shall we let this thread continue to die its slow death?

What a bout a Hi Fidelity draft? Participants have to select songs to fill out top 5's in some crazy categories? Anyone?

We could each nominate 10 bands, and maybe the top dozen or so bands named the most can be listed in the draft. I would try and not nominate anything too obscure.
In no particular order:
Rolling Stones
R.E.M.
Queen
Bruce Springsteen
Radiohead
Beck
Bob Marley
Prince
Ween
XTC
