Personally, I like the fact that there is a limited number. If it was unlimited, then every single post would have somebody's thanks associated with it. But as it stands now, if I thank a post it means something to the poster.
And I've never ran out; so if you see that I have thanked your post then you know it meant something to me.

Have the software devs set it up so that you get 5 thanks per day, plus one more for every post of yours that others thank.
Thus, if you want to be a thank whore, you have to post overwhelmingly high quality posts, funny one liners or animated gifs that crack everyone up.
