Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that if you're from Brazil and want to fight in the UFC you have to have either Silva or Thiago in your name?
Anderson Silva
Wanderlei Silva
Thiago Silva
Thiago Alves
Thiago Tavares
Paulo Thiago
Damn, they have to come up with some new names in Brazil.

Paulo Thiago vs. Jon Fitch Have always been a Fitch fan, he's a warrior
Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson This should be a battle, some hate from ultimate fighter, Bisping seems cocky, I hope Henderson kicks his ass
Thiago Alves vs. Georges St-Pierre (UFC Welterweight Champion) Tough fight for GSP, I hope he pulls it out
Frank Mir (Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion) vs. Brock Lesnar (UFC Heavyweight Champion) Some bad blood here, should be a great match

I know it's cool to hate Lesnar, but I think he'll mop the floor with Mir. He had Mir beat in the first fight, but a strike to the back of the head lost him a point and the reset. Then his inexperience showed. Long layoff or not, the simple fact that he has devoted himself to rounding his fighting, training on all other aspects, not just boxing and wrestling, makes him waaaay too dangerous. His size alone grants him a tremendous advantage, and with additional training, Mir is toast.
Lesnar over Mir - KO
Alves has some sick leg kicks, just unbelievably powerful, but there is no way he can match GSP in overall skill. If GSP gets this to the ground he controls the pace, Alves is no slouch and will defend, but not enough to keep GSP from racking up points. Barring a lucky striking victory for Alves, GSP wins this.
GSP over Alves - Decision
I just think Bisping is a prick from watching the last ultimate fighter, and Henderson definitely has the experience factor
Henderson over Bisbing - KO

Mir vs Lesnar (I guess Lesnar loses, everyone puts some hate on him)
GSP vs Alves (GSP is just the best in the sport, tough match but have to go GSP)
Bisping vs Henderson (Bisping I think has a lot of talent despite his attitude)

Mir vs Lesnar (TKO by hammerpunches (what else )
GSP vs Alves (TKO)
Bisping vs Henderson (Decision) Think Bisping will be able to stop the take downs and Henderson will run out of steam.

My friend scored tickets and is leaving tomorrow. I've never really been jealous of anyone but right now I am.

I've got a few friends going to the fight, and to top it off they've got a poolside cabana booked at the hard rock for rehab on sunday. I'm studying 12-14 hours a day. Now that's jealousy.

If by chance any CPers or lurkers are in Denver, Gibby's in Aurora (or any buff brothers bar for that matter) will have the fight on, no cover. Gibby's is just awesome cause they've got the volleyball court out back, and they'll have it on a 20 foot wide screen, projection style. I'll be there, drunk and loud. Looking forward to this tremendously.

After watching the UFC 100 Preview on Spike, I can't believe what a cocky, arrogant S.O.B Frank Mir is. I hope Lesner beats the holy hell out of him

Lesnar is just as cocky. Most fighters are, you've got to be for that line of work. Mir is justified in his cockiness, he's beaten Lesnar, beaten Nogouira, beaten anyone of importance. Lesnar got his shot at the belt after only like 4 freaking fights, he's a corporate puppet to bring in dollars to the UFC. If I was Mir, and had spent my life training and trying to move up, I'd be cocky too. I still think Lesnar wins.
Wow, that was a lot of caulk words in one paragraph.
Corksoaker, I was doing so well.

I don't really know what you expect from a fighter, he makes his living punching people and getting punched, if you're not ultra confident you have absolutely no chance. There's not a single guy in MMA who isn't extremely cocky, even GSP is, he just does a better job of hiding it at press conferences.

I'll be curious, outside of Nog who is this anyone of importance that Mir has beaten? I'll turn my head and give you Sylvia but outside of Pete Williams I would say he hasn't face anyone of importance. He's never fought Fedor, Barnett, Couture, Arlovski, Cro Cop, Fujita, Werdum, Kongo or Vovchanchyn to name a few. He's been as much as a "puppet" as Lesnar.
Not bringing anyone one fighter down but just stating that Mir is as untested at Lesnar

Lesnar will avenge his last loss to Mir, and decidedly so.

Well, Silvia was still considered a top heavyweight when Mir snapped his arm, and he did win the belt there. As I add to a lot of posts, I was drunk and not explaining myself well.
He's 12-3, at least he's got in ring experience. He is is quite respected in the community for his Jiu Jiutsu. That motorcycle accident effed it all up. When he was fighting, remember everything was ending early first round, the few fights that went two rounds were surprising. When he came back too early from the accident he didn't look good, and got to add a couple losses to his record.
I guess you'd have to look at time. There'd be no reason to fight Cro Cop or Arlovski now, they're washed up. No one is going to fight Fedor, he's not coming to the UFC.
My question in return is, who in the heavyweight division is more deserving of this title shot?

I don't really see how he could have fought any of those guys when doing so would have added anything to his reputation. As ResAlien said, it's a matter of timing. Couture, Arlovski, and Cro Cop have never really crossed paths with Mir, one was either out of the biz at the time or not the fighter they once were, and the same could be said for most of those names.
The heavyweight division is currently pretty sparse on top fighters, and Mir has beaten any of the guys who have a legitimate claim to contender status. I'd be much more upset with Lesnar's instant title contender routine if there was anyone else deserving, but really he came in at a time when there were only 2-3 guys at the elite level. Lesnar hasn't 'paid his dues' but what would have been the point of putting him in the ring with a tomato can? I don't really care if any quality heavyweights emerge in the near future as the majority of HW fights are boring IMO, but maybe that would change if some credible competition turned up.
